Picture this: Inside our body there is an elaborate system. A system of maintaining the body with nutrients and eliminating waste. We need nutrients to feed the cells and a well functioning system to eliminate toxins absorbed from food and the environment.
What happens if there is a nutrient deficiency and a broken waste elimination system?
A waste build up will occur. The lack of nutrients, vitamins, minerals and fibers will ultimately cause the cells to be depleted of core essentials and possibly shut down and result in toxin overload – poor health, disease and congested digestive system.
Ever experience a clogged sink or toilet? Or walked near a trashcan during a hot summer day? Are they pleasant to look at, possibly breeding worms and smelling bad?
How do you know if you need cleansing and your body is toxic?
According to Dr. Mark Hyman, here are some things to look out for:
● Constipation
● Persistent headaches, muscle aches and muscle fatigue
● Food allergies
● Hormonal imbalances
● Bloating
● Skin abnormalities such as acne, rosacea or eczema
● And more (Source and read more: DoctorOz)
Young Living 5-Day Nutritive Cleanse is a starting point for anyone looking for a gentle and effective cleansing system to help improve overall health. It provides nutritional maintenance, helps balance the extremes of the modern diet and provides essential nutrients, vitamins and protein while you fortify, cleanses and builds your health.
The kit comes with three products and a simple guide to snacking between meals. Here’s why this 5-Day Nutritive Cleanse is easy and effective:
One: Digest+Cleanse
Digest+Cleanse is made with Peppermint, Caraway, Lemon, Ginger, Fennel and Anise therapeutic grade essential oils and coconut oil. It soothes gastrointestinal upset, supports healthy digestion, prevents gas, soothes the bowel, stimulates stomach secretions and helps prevent indigestion and abdominal pain.
For centuries, peppermint has been regarded and used as an herb to soothe digestion and restore digestive efficiency. The d-limonene found in lemon oil helps alkalize and cleanse the digestive and lymphatic systems. While Caraway has been proven to soothe the bowel, improve elimination and ease digestive discomfort and nausea. Fennel helps break up toxins and cleanses the tissues and anise calms and strengthens the digestive system. (Source: Reference Guide for Essential Oils).
Two: NingXia Red
Cleansing can take a lot out of our body and we may feel weak and have a lack of energy. The 5-Day Cleansing kit comes with NingXia Red to provide energy and antioxidant on top of all the nutrients found in this super food.
NingXia Red is made from the NingXia wolfberry that contains essential amino acids, protein concentration, high oxygen radical absorbance (ORAC) and superoxide-oxygen radical absorbance capacity (SORAC)- which signifies that the wolfberry has the ability to look for free radicals. Free radicals are harmful to our body. The powerful antioxidant, d-limonene found in NingXia Red can help the liver neutralize and eliminate harmful substances like toxins.
During cleansing, NingXia Red can help create lasting energy, protect the whole body and replenish it with essential nutrients.
Three: Balance Complete
The average American eats between 10-15 grams of fiber per day, which is much lower than the average recommendation of 2-35 grams per day. Dietary fibers help make you feel full faster, control weight, aid digestion and prevent constipation. The lack of fiber is causing Americans to build toxicity in the body. (Source: NLM)
The two forms of fiber are soluble and insoluble. Soluble attracts water and turns to gel during digestion. It is scientifically proven to lower cholesterol and prevent heart disease. The insoluble fiber helps speed the passage of food through the stomach and intestines and adds bulks to the stool. (Source: NLM)
Balance Complete has 11 grams of dietary fiber per serving which is 44 percent of the daily recommendation. 8.75 grams are soluble fiber and 2.27 grams are insoluble fiber.
This unique blend of fibers called V-Fiber is a blend of soluble and insoluble fibers that may help more absorption of toxins, less bloating and gas, eliminate fats, promote better colon health, balance blood sugar and curb hunger.
This delicious super-food-based meal replacement is a nutritive energizer and cleanser. It is made of NingXia wolfberry powder, brown rice bran, barley grass, extra virgin coconut oil, aloe vera, cinnamon powder and whey protein blend. Balance Complete has high protein, good fats, enzymes, vitamins and minerals needed for your every day maintenance of health.
The whey protein in Balance Complete provides the body with amino acids for muscle strength and recovery. Most importantly this whey protein is from grass-fed, hormone free, pesticide free and antibiotic free cows. It has 75 percent pure protein by weight and is low in fat. Your body needs the protein and fat during the cleansing period.

“Just picture a great big steak, fried, roasted or stewed…Oh…wonderful food, marvelous food, glorious food!” What an irony to think of a scene from Oliver the 1969 musical, based on a book written by Charles Dickens called Oliver Twist when looking at the abundance of food served in the buffet lounge of the Norwegian Cruise Line.
Cruising is synonymous to buffet meals and overeating. According to a fitness coach on the Norwegian Sun, the average person gains one to two pounds per day on a cruise. Which means, if you are on an eleven-day cruise you would have the potential of gaining 22 pounds.
Hedonic eating happens while cruising because food is readily available, free, and comes in great variety. We eat for enjoyment and entertainment as well and its no wonder almost eighty percent of us are overweight.
So when we saw the sign up sheet outside the gym on the first full day of our cruise for “Detox for health and weight loss” we immediately signed up. It was definitely worth the one hour of lecture.
Walking out of the lecture we discovered the trilogy of good health- exercise, nutrition and detox. Here are five ways we keep the weight off while we cruise:
One: No soda or sugared water
Absolutely no sugar water in our 11-day diet because each can of soda or sweet tea contains about 40 grams (4 tablespoons) of fructose corn syrup or sugar. Do you know it takes 36 cups of water to drain out all the acidity from a can of soda? Our body may be sick and tired because of the acidity and toxicity from the food and drinks we consume.
You save money and calories when you drink just water while cruising. Water has the ability to hydrate and flush out toxins from our body.
In addition, we also had 2 oz. packets of NingXia Red per person per day with our water.
Two: High fiber food
Constipation is one of the main problems in America today. What we put in must come out but some people are finding it hard to do so. If we eat three meals a day, it means 21 meals in a week. If we go to the bathroom once a day, we are left with 14 meals still in our gut. What if you don’t go once a day?
Toxins are built up when food is stored in our body if it is not being eliminated daily. Toxicity and acidity are poisons to our liver and whole body. Eating fruits and vegetables in every meal is essential. Most of those huge bellies we have may be due to stored up waste. Our guts are overflowing and they are making us sick. In the “Oliver” musical, the kids sang about three banquets a day and indigestion.
We took every opportunity to jog and walk every day. All cruise ships have well-equipped gyms and exercise programs like yoga, stretching, bicycling and Pilates. Usage of gym is free but for a small fee of $10 to $15 per person anyone can join the daily exercise programs.Swimming is another form of exercise onboard a cruise ship. You could even hire a personal trainer for your daily workout.
Four: Nutritional Supplements
We brought nutritional supplements even on a cruise. Three essential supplements that we used daily were NingXia Red wolfberry drink, Life 5 Probiotic and Essentialzyme.
These products help with digestion and promote energy in our body and mind. NingXia Red is a superfruit supplement containing essential oil and puree wolfberry. We take it for the antioxidant and phytonutrients that help provide natural energy supply and aid with liver health. Essentialzyme helps with digesting the over abundance of protein we consumed every day during cruising. It helps balance our body’s overall enzyme activity and digestive health. Last but not least is Life 5 probiotic that supports core intestinal health.
Five: Take the stairs and take a walk (don’t eat the bread)
Instead of taking the elevators, walk the stairs. Walk after every meal and let go of as much carb as possible particularly any type of bread including whole wheat bread.
After 11 days of good food and great life, I gained three pounds. I guess that is really not bad considering I overate and had dessert for lunch and dinner everyday. What do you think of cruises and weight gain?

In less than 8 weeks he lost 20 pounds, lowered his cholesterol by 36 points and his Triglycerides by 388 points. How did he do it? Here is his story written by me.
On the last day of 2012 Jay had his first trip to the doctors’ in many years for a routine checkup. Prodded by me to go, we both thought it would be a good idea to get some base line tests done to see where his health was. He knew he was overweight and had been complaining of snoring, fatigue, exhaustion and I felt he had been more moody and even was exhibiting hypoglycemic tendencies for many months.
On 12/31/2012 the doctor’s office weighed him at 218 pounds, his blood pressure was normal, his stress test was normal, they also took blood for lab work and here is what they found.
They found in his Lipid Panel
Triglycerides at 597 (normal 45-150)
Cholesterol 230 (normal 125-200)
LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) was invalid because his Triglycerides were so high
HDL (good cholesterol) 41 (39-96 is normal)
They could not determine his cholesterol to HDL ratio because the Triglycerides were so high
Vitamin D was low at 16 (normal 30-100)
—————————————————————-
Prior to 12/31/12, the only regular supplement Jay took was NingXia Red 1-2 oz. a day. Ironically even being overweight, sedentary, and eating a poor diet for almost a year, his CBC, blood chemistry and inflammatory markers were all within normal ranges including Vitamin B 12, Sed Rate, PSA screening and Hemoglobin A1C. I believe drinking the NingXia Red for the past 5 years kept these numbers normal.
Eating habits included skipping meals or going many hours in between meals. Diet included one healthier meal but he ate white breads, chips, quesadillas 4-5 times a week, beef jerky 3-4 times a week, soda 3-4 times a week, sugar/sweets 4-5 times a week. Fast food meals 1-2 times a week. Very little vegetables and fruit in diet. And his portions were large.
On 1/12/13 we returned to the doctors and got the results of the labs and we asked for the option to try a program of exercise, diet changes, and nutritional supplements for the next 2 months. They agreed.
I must say that Jay was the one who made the decision that he was going to make the changes, he did ask for my help but he was all in. The next day he purchased a used treadmill on Craig’s list for $200.
Program from January 12 – March 4th (so not even 8 weeks)
Exercise: Started walking 20 minutes or more about 5 times a week with an incline and higher speed. Always sweated during workout. Occasionally used weights for biceps and upper body.
Diet:
Got rid of white foods in the house. Set up a strict protocol of no white products, soda, or sugar. Cut back on red meat but still had it at least once a week. Also cut out cheese he ate almost daily.
Daily Food Staples
Oatmeal, beans, avocado, dark berries and coconut oil were a staple on most days.
Also a protein fruit shake most mornings and another some afternoons. (this is where I snuck in the avocado and berries)
Created food schedule so he was eating at regular intervals!
Ate every couple of hours including 3 meals and 3 -4 snacks
Beverages
Water minimum of 2-3 25 oz. bottles
1 -2 cups of Slique Tea (one tea bag a day)
NingXia Red about 2 ounces or more a day.
Snacks
A protein bar (tried a variety of different kinds)
Greek yogurt and granola
Apples or fruit
Hummus and crackers or veggies and hummus
Shake
or a lite meal or leftovers
Breakfast
Oatmeal most every day
Lunches and Dinners
Included more soups, chilis, salads, and smaller portions. 80% gluten free
Nutritional Supplements
Daily Young Living Supplements
Thyromin 2 capsules first thing upon waking up and 2 capsules before going to bed
True Source 1 packet
Longevity 1 pill
Super B 1 tablet
OmegaGize 3-4 capsules a day
Essentialzymes-4 1 -2 duo packs usually with larger meals
Again Slique Tea- one cup on most days right around the 3 pm -5pm time
NingXia Red 2-3 oz. a day
He also took Liquid Vitamin D about 50,000 IU’s a week
He also did on an off about maybe 10 or less days out of the 52 days took 2 Life 5 Probiotics at night, 4-5 Sulfurzyme a day, and maybe 5 doses of Lemongrass in a capsule.
To help remember to take supplements we used these little pill boxes I found near the pharmacy section of a store. They were only like $1.50 but really help to keep you on track. Every morning I would fill his pill box and mine. We usually keep them near us most of the day. (But again we work from home so that’s not far.)
On March 11th we returned to the doctor’s office to get his lab results from March 5th.
They weighed Jay at 199.4 lbs. and we are giving him the .4 for heavy clothes making his total weight loss 20lbs. And here were the results of 52 days of diet changes, light exercise and Young Living supplements.
Symptoms Gone
Within a week Jay had more energy, improved moods, motivation and overall happiness. His snoring stopped after about week 2. The difference in him especially when on the full nutritional program and eating regularly and healthy is almost like another man. He is full of energy, life and thinks very clearly.
The Partnerships
Jay and I worked together along with a few helpers. What do I mean we worked together? He asked me for a protocol and I wrote out basically what you see above for diet and supplements. Since I am growing a baby, I decided to cut out the same foods (mostly) and eat regularly and supplement similar to Jay every day.
We worked as a team but I also pay my health conscious great cook, friend and my Aunt Shirley to help prepare some healthier soups and desserts that all of us could eat, 2 meals a week. And because I am doing more cooking and prepping I also got some help 2 times a week with cleaning.
It’s not easy to make all these changes at once but it was the best decision for our family since we are on a deadline to change our ways and get on track with our health. (our 2nd child is arriving at the end of this month)
One more comment – Stress Levels and Sleep
Jay’s stress levels did not go down, in fact I would say the demands on his time and energy went up during these past 8 weeks. With the birth of a new baby approaching, working 60-70 plus hours a week and getting on average 6 hours of quality sleep a night and yet was still able to lose weight. I believe that exercise even if just 20 minutes a day, better eating, supplements especially Thyromin was the KEY TO THIS! Thyromin isn’t just for thyroid support but for the adrenal glands, which I am sure, were exhausted from his former lifestyle. Exhausted adrenal glands lead to fatigue, exhausted bodies, sick bodies and more.
Also he wasn’t sick at all in those 8 weeks when prior to this he had been sick with a cold or something little almost every couple of weeks for several months.
The next step
This is just the first step. 52 days is just the beginning. We have another 180 days until his next appointment because the doctor agreed he is making great results with diet, exercise and supplements. Some of the staff and doctors already use Young Living essential oils and products so they wanted to know what we used as well.
Jay is on the road to health again. But he has to continue the process.
What about you? Are you ready to get on the road to health? Some will choose to do a full protocol like Jay, others will take some of things he is doing and incorporate it into their life. Make the commitment. Jay made a commitment to be healthier for his growing family. Find something that will help you stay motivated and make a commitment to do something to improve your health today!

Can indulging too much and giving too much spoil our children? We know there is not a complete parenting manual out there in the marketplace today. Sometimes parents follow the steps in a parenting book and still find it frustrating to have failed in some areas. Me too.
With modern conveniences, busy lifestyles, overscheduled children and demands from every area…are we aware of what is important? How can we cut through the noise and distractions and focus on raising responsible children who know their boundaries? Establishing boundaries that encourage and promote freedom to be who they are designed to be?
When my daughter was four, I brought her to a dance studio against her will. Then she turned five, I sent her for piano lessons because almost everyone was doing that. When she was seven, it was time for violin. The ‘well-intended’ activities turn into family feuds when the ‘good daughter’ would not practice or hated piano and violin.
In frustration I yelled across the soccer field to my husband, “Look, she is just standing at the soccer field, not kicking the ball!” We have come a long way, in fact seven years of ‘remodeling our parenting skills’. Through mistakes and many frustrations, we have enforced certain rules upon ourselves (the parents) and now the children are less scheduled and are very much growing in the way they should go….
Realize parenting is about our own personal growth, boundaries and our own lifestyle. After all, children look up to us and are modeling what we are doing. Now, we believe in parenting like a mentor, a coach who does the very things expected from the children. Now we have authority, as we model and live life with honesty and boundaries…raw in front of our children.
These are seven ways we are teaching responsibilities and boundaries:
1. Learn to do things on your own. We can show you once or twice. Then you have to take over and do it yourself. There is a difference between a close relationship with my children and dependency. They are to do assigned housework and clean their bathrooms. “Live with your own trash if you want to” philosophy. I don’t want an adult child that depends on me to provide or do certain things for them.
2. Learn that life is not a bed of roses. Life can be difficult and has obstacles. I share with them the obstacles I’m facing and how certain things that were expected did not turn out the way I wanted.
3. Learn to cope with disappointment, struggles and unhappy situation. Life is not always a happy time and easy time. However, we can command our soul to be happy and cope with the disappointment.
4. Learn to work and move forward. We are made to work, for nothing will drop from the sky. Nice things cost money to buy. You need to make the money to support the lifestyle you want. There is a big difference between a Bugatti and a Toyota made car.
5. Know there are consequences to everything. There is no bailing out in our family when enough warnings are given about the consequences of certain actions or behavior.
6. Curb the need for immediate gratification. With lots of conveniences it is easy to feed ourselves and get immediate gratification for almost anything. They are told the difference between convenient food and food made from scratch.
7. Our children want to be treated well and respected. They are watching us. Do we respect spouse, friends, co-workers, and ourselves and ultimately do we respect them?
I believe the English idiom the apple never falls far from the tree says a lot about parenting responsible children. The bible says train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).
This year, what words are you speaking over yourselves and your children? Questions to help us move forward:
1. Do we have an entitlement mentality? For example, I deserve to have a healthy body without putting some work in getting nutritional food into my body.
2. Do you procrastinate on projects? For example, are you still waiting for the right time to get a home business going. There is no perfect or right time. The time is now.
3. Are you waiting for the government to make your life better? For example, you are waiting for a pay raise and you have not increased your skills for the last 20 years. You are using the same skill 19 times over without new skills.
If the answers are yes, we need a change. Do you have children that have similar traits as the three illustrations above? I am still learning and growing in these areas and making sure I follow through. To raise responsible kids, I have to be a responsible adult.
To have a healthy body, I put clear boundaries to differentiate between the good nutritional food and supplements and the bad. Please leave us a comment below. We would like to hear from you.

Top 10 Tips to Keeping a Food and Nutritional Journal for Total Wellness
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
Now that the celebrations are over, lots of us have eaten quite a bit more than usual in special family meals with cookies, pudding and pies. While we put away our Christmas decorations…the last thing we may want to know is to start a food and nutritional journal.
We may find ourselves drifting through life year after year with no personal agenda when it comes to food and nutrition. It seems like there is no sense of direction about food until we hear of some crisis… health related.
“I eat good.” “My diet is healthy” ” We don’t eat out at all.” These are some common things I hear when working with Health Coaching clients and then I have them keep a Food diary and we enter into a tracking system that tells us how much real nutrition they are getting every day…
The result of 90% of clients is a wake up call to see how they are really eating. Most people don’t realize that even when we are eating healthy we may not be getting enough nutrition. We have had pregnant moms and entire families think that they were eating only healthy foods to do this tracking and then realize they were still lacking some key nutrition.
It’s easy to forget about ourselves, particularly, giving attention to our food and nutritional intake. However, the new year can be a time to take a look deeply and time to bring out a “compass”…a flow chart, a cheat sheet, a journal…whatever we call it…let’s take control of our total wellness by keeping a food and nutritional journal this new year.
Here are 10 tips to help you jumpstart with a journal:
1. Start small. Remember the question how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. It is the same for starting a food journal. You start by taking small steps… you learn about food and nutrition while you journal. Write down what you eat for breakfast, snack, lunch and dinner.
2. Know your portions. We tend to eat bigger portions than we need. We can start by making our serving a little smaller each day. Instead of a baseball size meal, change it to a tennis ball size and eventually to a golf ball size. To assist with the visual serving size, get three of these balls and let them remind you of your portions.
3. Commit to reading and motivating yourself. Reading inspirational books like biographies and motivational books can help re-access our lives and change our outlook. Books are able to open doors for us to a world outside our own. For example, reading a book about Helen Keller who was blind and deaf. Her stories will inspire us to look beyond obstacles and limitations.
4. Plan your meal. A week with planned meals can help save money, time and help us eat healthier. If you plan your meal for the week, you will know exactly what you are having for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is no second-guessing; you know how to balance your meal with proteins, carb, vegetables and fruits.
5. Create balance. Have time for work, play and enjoy your meal. Time for quietness just by yourself or just meditate and journaling. A food and nutritional journal can be combined with your journey about your life. This includes writing your thoughts for the day along with the food you enjoy.
6. Drink tea. A food journal does include your beverage and water intake. Drinking tea is a way to relax. Young Living has created a wonderful tea called Slique that has anti-oxidant value of green tea and help curb appetite. Have a cup before your meal each day. The English enjoy their afternoon teatime for a reason. This could be a well planned day for relaxation and satisfying your appetite.
7. Set free. Holding grudges and unforgiveness can obstruct our growth. To achieve total wellness, we need to forgive. Forgive ourselves, our loved ones and set our spirit free. Forgiveness Oil by Young Living helps while you are taking steps to forgive yourself and others who have hurt you. There is nothing more freeing than to power forgiveness.
8. Don’t stay idle. Idleness may lead to boredom and lack of purpose that eventually leads us to nowhere. It can be a time-waster and energy sucker. When we make an effort to build relationship with people, take time to exercise and journal, we place our energy on achieving something that will give us a sense of purpose.
9. Have a routine. Remember when our kids were babies? We set them up with a routine for nap, feeding and bathing. A routine helps children know what to expect at a certain time. Likewise, as adults with routines, we are able to expect ourselves to perform certain task. Setting up a daily routine requires a to-do-list. A to-do-list will help us track our time and also help us to have discipline to track our food and nutrition.
10. Get the journal and start writing. The journal can be any writing material that suits you. It may even be an excel sheet on your laptop. The key is to get going. Write down what you had for the day, why you eat it and how you feel and what are you going to improve or eliminate. Oftentimes, with an accountability partner we can create and stay with a new habit.
These are 10 tips to help you start a food and nutrition journal for 2012. Remember to add nutritional supplement to your diet from Young Living Essential Oil. What better way to start creating a healthier you now?
Here is a bonus tip: An easy way to track your nutrition is to use the free site SparkPeople. Although it will take you about 5-10 minutes to set up and an additional 5-10 minutes a day it is an easy way to track your results everyday.

How I got Pregnant after a Miscarriage
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
I have heard many clients say that their sickness, health challenge or even cancer was the best thing that ever happened to them. For me it was my miscarriage. It woke me up to the years that I neglected some fundamental things in my health. Years that I would say starting next month I will get in shape, tomorrow I will go to the gym. I just couldn’t get into a consistent rhythm.
My miscarriage gave me a desire to get my body fit again. To take off years of build up I call it. And when I started walking down that path to Total Wellness that’s when I got pregnant again.
Here is what I did to get my body back to Health and pregnant again.
My Immune System
About several days after the miscarriage my body went into full-blown allergic state. I was having some really severe allergies for weeks afterwards. I had to pull out the big guns of what I knew of nutritional wellness, eating and drinking water like never before. I know it was foundational for my recovery. I talk more about what I did specifically for my allergies in my Ebook Natural Remedies for Allergies located at The Total Wellness Library.
There are many theories that Fibromyalgia starts from a traumatic event in a person’s life. Fibromyalgia is usually a breakdown of the immune system along with debilitating pain. I believe had I not recovered myself properly from my miscarriage I could have ended up with Fibromyalgia symptoms down the road.
Nutrition and Food:
The second week after my miscarriage I got out the old juicer and started juicing everything from cherries to veggies and even some special liver support veggie blends. I know this started to re-fortify and heal my body. I was also on a juice fast the week after I conceived so this baby started with some mega doses of natural vitamins and minerals.
I also started to eat very regularly having a shake within an hour of waking up and another healthy breakfast a few hours later. A light lunch and sensible dinner and if I needed it some healthy snacks or another shake throughout the day. I wasn’t so concerned with losing weight as of getting my blood sugar and body back in balance.
Rest:
I didn’t rest enough during my first pregnancy with my son Joshua and that led to some poor health physically and emotionally for almost a year. After my miscarriage I allowed my body to rest every day. Sleeping until I woke up, and taking a nap most days.
When I found out I was pregnant I also let myself rest extra. My body was tired from the changes and growing a baby. This time I am doing my best to listen to it and rest when I feel I need it. This also means I have slowed my pace some, got extremely focused in what I do, and I am not taking on anything new.
So many times we just go on with life when we get a cold, have a set back or even have a miscarriage. Resting and allowing the body to recover is important.
But with that said too much rest can be harmful. With my first son I was sitting or lying down a lot in the last trimester. It was winter I could work from home on the computer but all that sedentary living I lost a lot of muscle, which was replaced with fat.
Because I spent over a month on mostly bed rest before my miscarriage I lost a lot more strength. I couldn’t even carry my 25lb son up and down the stairs afterwards. That loss of strength not only weakened me physically but emotionally as well. You can fall into a very dark place where you just don’t have the strength to get going to do anything.
Exercise and Building Strength:
If I could say the one thing that was life changing after my miscarriage was the Strength building exercises I did. Chalene Extreme it is called and it kicked my butt back into shape. In 30 days I lost over 20 % body fat. It pushed me farther than I had pushed myself in years. I was stronger than I had ever been and the endorphins really knocked me out of a depression.
I let it go for a while after finding out I was pregnant but found myself losing muscle again. So I am absolutely going to make Strength Training part of this pregnancy no excuses.
Sunshine & Heat Therapy:
Since it was the summer I got to go outside and take my naps in the sun while getting some much needed vitamin D. In September I got to do some consistent heat therapy sessions with the Biomat and Infrared Sauna. I know this was not only cleansing to my body but also strengthening.
Counseling, Vacations and Family Support:
I think for my husband and I it was about two weeks before it really hit us what we had lost. Rachel we named our child after reading the book “Heaven is Real” by Todd Burpo . Ironically I finished that book the day before Rachel our baby went back to see Jesus.
My counselor Dr. Lavonne Atnip was very helpful, in helping me deal with my emotions, deal with other people sharing their stories (which at one point didn’t really make me feel any better), help me help my husband, and just how to move forward. Counseling made things better for sure.
My family and friends came forward to help me with making me my favorite meals, (like Grandma Vita’s chicken cutlets or Aunt Shirley Turkey Breast); they took care of my son, and let me have some alone time. My colleagues were very generous by taking some of my Teleclasses, sending me cards and gifts and just being encouraging.
We got to go on vacation to my mother in laws “Jones Health Essentials” where it is just a wonderful time of family, garden fresh foods, and enjoying the healing modalities there. Ironically I got pregnant right after that vacation. So I would tell any women when you are ready to conceive again go on a vacation. It will do your body good!
God:
Because of my faith I never blamed God or was angry with Him. I think I questioned Him a few times but I know He ordained that experience for me. I learned so much; I strengthened my health, my relationship with my husband and my son.
I think strong faith has carried me through this with a peace that passes all understanding. I wish that same peace that I found through Jesus Christ for all those who suffer, because it will bring you healing.
Thank you for reading my story, for sharing this experience with me and for sharing my story with those who have gone through miscarriage, are struggling to get pregnant or are just thinking about getting pregnant. Please comment below or send me an email.

Your 10 Day Pick Me Up Simple Things You Can Do to Overcome Fatigue,Depression and Stress
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
During the holidays, special occasions, stressful times, it seems like we can throw our diets and exercise routines out the window. After a few weeks of this we may or may not realize we are feeling more tired, achey, and even a little depressed. This break from good health can last a few weeks, a few months or even a few years. It's important to know that we all fall off the wagon especially around the holidays, but there are some simple Pick Me Ups you can do that will get you back on track.
Drinking
Water Water Water. If you have let soda, more coffee runs, alcohol creep into your diet STOP. Cut back on those things or even eliminate them for 10 days and just drink water. Not just a little water but lots of it. Get up to half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Yes you will run to the bathroom a lot more until your body starts to really absorb the water. This could be about day 7 but right around the 5-7 day mark you may notice you have more energy, less pain, and improved digestion. Some people even notice their thinking get's clearer.
“Every time I have pain or a headache I drink an 8 oz glass of water wait a few minutes and then another 8 oz of water. I would say about 50% of the time my pain decreases or goes away” LK
Eating
If you are like me once I get into the sweet I can't stop without intervention… My intervention comes in the form of food replacements. I like Balance Complete and water because it is quick easy and tastes great. Balance Complete will give me nutrition, fiber,a sweet fix I may need and by not having a heavy meal I have more energy. Replacing a meal a day for 10 days not only helps get me back on track but it helps re-program my body's taste buds.
“Balance Complete helps me overcome sugar and bread habits” CH
I give 10 more strategies for overcoming sugar habits in my ebook 10 Hidden Secrets why you can't keep your hand out of the cookie jar.
Moving
Moving gets the blood pumping which can bring more energy to the body. If you work a sedentary job or a job where you are standing in one spot all day long then I highly recommend heel raises and stretching a minimum of every hour for 30 seconds at a time. We all have different abilities but not moving is very detrimental to our bodies. If you drive for more than an hr do abdominal and buttock squeezing for 5-10 seconds several repetitions every couple of hours.
“Writing all day at my computer I have to get up and move every hr or else my body hurts at the end of the day and I lose focus when I don't take stretch breaks.” JC
Resting
Are you out of your good sleep habits? Or maybe you rarely have good sleep habits? The best thing you can do is give yourself 10 days of going to bed at the same time every night and waking at the same time every night. Rest is Best but it is best when we can create a habit for our health. Some people's habits are 5-6 hrs of sleep at night and an additional 90 minute nap after work. What is your best sleep habit for your lifestyle?
If you have trouble sleeping get our FREE copy of Sleep Well Ebook.
If you feel like you may not be able to do the above recommendations for 10 days I understand we all have different and ever changing lives. Give your best effort for as many days in a row you can. If you can go longer than 10 days GREAT! But there is one thing that is the Ultimate Pick Me up. Drinking 6 oz of NingXia Red a day for 10 days Super Saturates the body with healthy nutrition and fortifies your health.
You drink 1 oz in 8 oz of water every 2-3 hours. A 10 day challenge can really improve the way you deal with stress, decrease the sugar blues, and increase your energy.
“My daughter struggles with anxiety. I started giving her 2 oz of NingXia Red in her lunch every day and 1 oz at home. I can always tell if she doesn't drink her NingXia Red at school because of her mood when she gets home. We immediately get out a packet and she drinks it and you can see her body relax and the anxiety go away. “ PL

Ningxia Red: Good Eating is Not Common Sense
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
Modern technology has taken over the manufacturing of our our daily food. Most of us that lead a busy lifestyle fail to realize that this processing has caused the actual nutritional value of what we eat to go way down. What used to be from farm to table is now highly centralized technological food processing.
The need for longer shelf life for food has compromised nutrients stored in natural condition of our food. The focus of high yield, high productivity and profits may reduce the nutrients in our everyday food. And what nutrients are labeled are not necessarily digested by the body. And worse off our bodies are becoming sensitive to some of this new food.
According to USA Today, Celiac disease is on the rise in the United States, and has doubled in the last 15 years. Is there a relation between the way we produce our food now and the increase in Celiac disease? This is just one of the many types of diseases that are on the rise in our country. We are becoming more advance but our people are getting really unhealthy.
Good eating is no longer common sense? Is there more we need to know to stay healthy? Are most of us lacking in necessary nutrients? I think so.
There are six major categories of nutrients needed in our body. They are the fats, carbohydrates, water, proteins, minerals and vitamins. To take it a step further, some examples of minerals are calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc and sulfur. Some examples of vitamins are Vitamin D, K, C, various types B.
Deficiency of one or many of these combinations will lead to poor health and every single year we lack a certain combination which will lead to complications and chronic diseases.
Other than those listed, our body also need antioxidants, phytochemicals and other micro-nutrients. No wonder we need more than common sense!
Where do you fill in the FOOD GAP?
Books upon books, TV programs and magazines talk about the connections of food, lifestyle and health. There are hundreds of nutritional supplements and vitamins advertised daily throughout all mediums of communication. When you visit your local store, there go the shelves full of all names, colors, sizes of nutritional supplements.
Many medical professionals agree with the need of nutritional supplements in our diet.
Are you at a lost sometimes looking at nutritional supplements for your family? To top it off, there are packaging for infants, children, teens, adults and seniors….is there really a difference when it comes to nutrition?
What if there is one nutritional supplement that is suitable for the whole family?
Let us present Ningxia Red, the consumable supplements that have more testimonials and health results than anything we’ve ever presented. It is for children and adults of any age (even suitable for your pet).
Because of the way NingXia Red is made (as close to nature as possible) and because it is liquid it is more nutrition is absorbed in the body because it is FOOD versus a concentrated synthetic pill.
Here are some testimonials, causes and remedies:
Don’t feel sick all the time now: "We have been using NingXia Red for a month now and when I asked my fourteen-year-old daughter if she noticed any difference, she replied, 'I don't feel sick all the time. Now I'm going to have to fake it to miss time from school!' We laughed and I told her I would like to go on a day trip with her sometime—maybe I will let her take a sick day for that." —Marina Thornton
Boost of energy: "NingXia Red has given me a boost in energy—and having a very active job of setting up and taking down temporary exhibits at a natural history museum, I can use it. Thank you for making my life better. I am now registered to be a distributor, and will spread the good word about this wonderful product." —Craig Yaneki
Takes away sugar cravings: "I'm drawn to eating sugary foods. However, when I drink NingXia Red regularly it takes away my sugar cravings. This is nothing less than a miracle for me." —Hope Smith
Reduce stress: “I typically use two ounces of NingXia Red each morning when I wake up, and during high-stress times, I use one to three ounces more during the day. The results have my husband now interested in the Young Living product line, and our patients have even noticed a difference in my energy levels at the office. I also know that the difference has been significant enough that the people around me have taken notice and are now looking at Young Living products with interest themselves." —Marilynn Alvarez
Why do all these testimonials have a similar trait?
They all point to overcoming fatigue, stress and low immune system which lead to sickness. The food we consume and the lack of proper nutrients are known to cause the negative effects on our body.
How can you benefit from Ningxia Red?
• More energy without stimulants
• Greater immunity
• Greater stamina all day long
• Higher level of health and well-being
The main ingredient in Ningxia Red is Lycium barbarum, also known as wolfberry. The Chinese in Ningxia Province, Northwest China has been known to live for over 100 because of the consumption of wolfberry.

How to Look 40 when you are 60 : An Interview with Cindy Mirabito
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
As I looked in the mirror one day and made another excuse of why I do not want to exercise I remembered my friend Cindy Mirabito. Cindy is almost 60 years old and LOOKS AWESOME. She is not only fit and strong but she really does look like she is 40.
Why does she look so good?
Here are some Total Wellness Tips from Cindy on How to look 40 when you are 60:
1) Make time to EXERCISE NO MATTER WHAT. I was always active with my 3 oldest children I would walk and even run. But as happens many times we allow life to get in the way and exercise took a back seat when my youngest children were born. But I soon realized that I needed to exercise not just for the physical benefits but really the mental benefits. I was home alone with my young girls for 10-12 hours a day. As soon as my husband got home I would head out the door. It was my routine, and I would walk 5 miles and then eventually I extended it to 10 miles a day. The fresh air, the time alone just for me was very beneficial to my overall health.
Several years ago I was caring for my parents out of state and stayed there for 2 months. During that time I didn't exercise because I thought they needed me more. I realized afterwards that not exercising was a mistake and even just getting outside for a few mile walk would have been more beneficial for my health. Since I learned that lesson I needed to care for my husband for a period of time when he had a back issue. I didn't stop exercising because I needed that boost for both my mental and physical health.
2) Gym's are not for Skinny people. I was nervous myself about going to a gym. I know many women feel that gyms are what we see on TV, full of skinny beautiful people. That is not the environment you will see. At my gym there are people of all shapes, sizes and ages. No one is judging you on what you look like or wear. Plus a gym is available everyday even when the weather is bad outside.
3) Gym's can help you meet new friends, stay accountable and find support. I met new friends with young children like me that I wouldn't have met if I was just home exercising. One friend I made became my workout partner and she taught me how to lift weights. This was encouraging and motivating because you knew everyday there was someone waiting for you to work out.
4) You have to PUSH to get the results you want and sometimes that means investing in a Personal Trainer. It is easy for someone to go to the gym and just get into a routine of walking or lifting and forget that they have to PUSH their bodies to get the results they want. Or sometimes people will PUSH the wrong way and hurt themselves because they didn't understand proper form when lifting. I invested in a Personal Trainer for more than a year. This taught me routines and proper form of lifting weights, using bands, and other not so obvious tools that if you just go to the gym you may miss. That investment was useful as a motivator and helping me take the next step in my workouts. Now I can maintain my workouts on my own with what I learned from my Personal Trainer.
5) Healthy Parents make Healthy Kids. Today some of my children have families of their own and some of my children are in college, but most of them work out. When your children see you taking care of yourself they will follow in your foot steps. It becomes part of your family's lifestyle.
6) Learning to eat right. What you put in your mouth is important. Going to the gym will not make the changes you want without changing what you put in your mouth. Most of us don't realize that we may not be eating the right foods or proper quantities. I invested in learning from a Wellness Coach how to eat right for me. I struggled with Acid Reflux which the doctors wanted to put me on drugs. Through food changes, my Young Living vitamins and exercise I rarely have any reflux now and don't need medication.
7) Investing in your Health. Staying young and healthy through the years has been an investment of time and money. I use and taught my children to care for their skin daily at an early age. We use costly skin care, Young Living supplementation, and take care of our teeth. All these things contribute not only to our outward appearance but inwards as well. The results are paying off. For several years I have had Bone Density scans, after my baseline they found my Right hip had some density loss. I started on Young living's Super Cal as well as more weight bearing exercises and my last scan showed no change and no further loss. My girlfriend who doesn't exercise keeps coming back with bone loss every time she get's scanned. I know my investment is helping to maintain my health.
8)If you don't take care of yourself no one will- so find a MOTIVATOR. Since I had children later in life I wanted to be able to keep up with them as they grew. Today I workout with my daughters and even learned to ski at age 50. In fact the instructor complimented me saying that my ability to do so well skiing had to do with my core strength. I know that core strength comes from my working out.
Many people my age are plagued with being overweight, having high blood pressure and cholesterol, or even diabetes. This is one of my motivators. When I get my yearly doctor check ups and blood work I don't have any of that!
Cindy's tips can help all of us men and women younger and older. As a new mom myself I think of her as a role model for women with children as well as women who are past menopause. I spent almost a decade going to the gym but I forgot how to push myself. Getting a personal trainer and into a specific PUSH routine woke me up to my body's new strength. And like Cindy said it made me a happier and healthier mom.
If you want to look younger, feel stronger, and be healthier take Cindy's advice and JUST DO IT! Please leave us your comment below.

7 Days of Juice Fasting – Almost
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
So I am writing this on the 7 ½ day of my almost Juice Fasting. As some of you know I had been recently inspired by the movie “Fat, Sick and Almost Dead”. Although I had done several different cleansing and fast I had never done juices. My husband and I had been getting colds much more frequently than usual, gained some weight, and just felt overall “yucky”. So we both committed to do it.
Reboot is a term used in the movie to rest the body from solid foods and fortify with high dosages of nutrition from freshly juiced vegetables and fruits.
Reboot Tip #1: Having a partner to do your cleanse or fast with helps you stay motivated.
The Saturday before our cleanse my husband decides we need to eat pepperoni pizza since will be fasting soon. I am tired and hungry and give in to 3 slices and some fried mushrooms. Although I knew already this wasn't a good idea I would soon feel why in the next few days.
Reboot Tip #2: Eat light before your fast for at least several days or longer. Light meaning no starch breads, pasta, or pizza, no dairy, no sugar, no alcohol, or even meat, It does mean eat lots of veggies, fruits, healthy soups to get your fiber intake high. This tip will help the transition to cleansing be much easier.
I didn't spend a lot of time investigating what kind of juicing I was going to do I just knew I was going to do mostly GREEN juices meaning more veggies than fruits. The cost of about 3 days of groceries for both of us was about $75 with a few organic veggies like carrots and apples and the rest non-organic.
Reboot Tip #3: Decide on your recipes and get your food buying done in advance. Know where you can purchase the produce you will need. For some of us it may be a 15-45 minute trip to get organic veggies and some will not be in season. Plan your time accordingly.
Day 1: We start juicing and Jay can't stand the Mean Green juice with Ginger and refuses to drink it. He starts juicing his own drinks including apple and lemon, apple and carrot and things like that. I am braver and even make a tomato juice with garlic.
Day 2: My throat is burning and my skin yeast gets in full flare even though I am only having like 1 apple or less per drink. I am a little stiff and achey and a bit spacey. Jay turns into a gorilla Tuesday morning most likely because he is not having juices regularly maybe 3 a day and letting 6-8 hrs go by in between drinks. Jay and I both continue.
Reboot Tip #4: You must do your juices or shakes every few hours especially in the beginning. A minimum of 3-6 20 ounce juices a day.
Day 3: I realize that because of the yeast in my system that just juicing even veggies will not be good for me so I add a protein shake. We both do 3 shakes and 3 juices today. Jay is a lot less irritable and I feel kind of good except I am not pooping.
Reboot Tip #5: Juicing can spike blood sugar and cause a body that has some underlying yeast overgrowth to flare up.
Day 4: Jay's special protein shake and enzymes gets him to flush out a lot of old poop. He feels increased energy and stamina, but his cough from last week's cold is still hanging on. His bloating in his gut is down and his face is thinner. I feel good but still not having any significant bowel movements even with my cabbage juice.
Reboot Tip #6: You have to get the poop out when doing any type of cleansing, fasting or juicing program. Not pooping will drain your energy, give you headaches, mental fogginess and just have for feeling yicky if those toxins can't get out. If not pooping use Smooth move tea or Senna may be a good choice before and during your cleanse.
Day 5: I feel good and get my colon moving some but decide to go do an Infrared Sauna to sweat the toxins out for 45 minutes. Boy do I start stinking in that sauna, those toxins really start coming out. Today I notice a difference in my face thinner but also my complexion is clearer. I even go out to Tim Horton's to meet friends and have no cravings for breads or sugar. I have energy all the way until midnight.
Jay is back to juicing only once a day and maybe one shake so he is feeling not so good. His sinuses are very congested again and he has a cough.
Reboot Tip #7: Infrared Saunas, Lite exercise, Chiropractic, Foot Detox, Raindrop Therapies are all good to do when cleansing to help release toxins out of your system.
Day 6: I feel really good and get a juice and a shake in before a day of cleaning and heavy lifting. I can't believe the energy I have. Although I forget to bring any shakes, juices or water so at noon I eat a pear that was there. I feel pretty dehydrated by 6pm but still lots of energy. I have released 9lbs.
Jay warms up some beans around noon and eats 2 servings of beans that day. He lost 12 lbs.
Day 7: I have no desire to make another veggie juice because every time I drink one my throat gets irritated so I am deciding that I will just have protein shakes and a little light food. I enjoy a shake this morning and eat a little sweet potato.
Reboot Tip #8: Coming off a cleanse is just as important as starting if not more.
Jay's cough is really bad now. Sunday after church we find ourselves on the road to show a property we own in Syracuse NY and Jay decides he is going to get a Five Guys hamburger and Fries, I tell him I am not going to eat meat for a while but I still have a few of his French fries. He finishes his fries and is full and decides to save the burger until later. When he eats his burger (protein, bread and heavy food his body isn't used to having) he can't keep his eyes open and goes to bed at 6pm that night.
That night I cook a turkey breast for my son to have this week but end up eating over a cup of it. I didn't feel hungry but I definitively craved something that must be in turkey. I guess I am officially done with fasting. I can't even fall back into a Daniel Fast now.
Did this Juice Fasting make Jay's cold worse? No, his actions of not drinking water or juicing regular or even have shakes regular led to that in my opinion.
But overall this was a really good experience for both of us. We feel good and have broken sugar habits and shrunk our stomachs. We are motivated to continue to eat smaller portions, liter foods, and exercise more regularly.
I realize that juice fasting is not the right place for me and most of my clients to start when trying to rest and reboot our bodies. I pray that our story will be an encouragement to you. We are real people too who struggle with food. But we both were ready to REBOOT. You can do it too even if it is a day to start with. But I will share with you my favorite Reboot program which is safe and sooooooo much simpler is the 5 day Cleanse by Young Living. It is easy to stick with and taste a lot better than the mean green juice with more benefits in my opinion.
The 5 day cleanse is the next thing we will do one to two times before the end of the year to solidify and continue our progress.

My husband and I pulled out the scale after vacation to see the numbers once again go up. He gained 10Lbs and I gained 5% bodyfat.. AGGGHHH. We both have realized we have allowed ourselves to slowly gain weight, get out of shape, and begin a spiral of POOR HEALTH. Extra weight on our body before the holiday season and winter is not good. Did you know the average American puts on 11lbs between October 31st – January 1st and 5-10lbs during winter months?
Don't get me wrong I love the holidays and I love vacations with my family. At my amazing Southern Cooking Mother- In-laws home good food is always around along with not so good food. I can always start my vacation saying no to desserts and then by mid week I have one of these decadent desserts and that's it…. It is all over. By the end of vacation I don't care what it tastes like I just want sugar and bread.
Vacations aren't bad for us we all need time away, we all need days we can just break loose of food restrictions and eat sugar, breads, soda and so on, but it's when we continue this trend after the holidays that things get bad. Constantly eating and drinking junk foods will lead to a junky body. Below is a trailer from the movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead I think it would be worth your time to watch it for free on www.hulu.com or rent it.
Let me know what you think below in the comments section. My husband and I were both motivated to start a REBOOT. In Monday's Blog I will share with you what our results were and what may be the best way to start for you.
Hospital Doctor Recognizes that Lifestyle Causes the Majority of Sick Patients
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
Diabetes affects 25.8 million people and 8.3% of the U.S. population. According to CDC at least 7 million are undiagnosed. Out of these numbers, 215,000 are below age 20 and in 2010 alone, there were 1.9 million newly diagnosed patients.
That is a piece of staggering news and most of the issues started because of lifestyle…
Added to the above news, CDC reported it contributed to $116 billion in direct medical costs and $58 billion of indirect medical costs (due to disability, work loss or premature mortality). Diabetes will also lead to kidney failure, heart disease, hypertension, stroke and some cases blindness and amputating limbs.
People with diabetes have higher medical bills compared to non-diabetes people with the cost of doctor’s visits, hospital stays (for some) and insulin and oral medication.
That is just one example of health problems and huge medical bills that Americans are facing that is related to our lifestyle…the food we eat, the lack of exercise and the lack of education of nutrition.
Childhood obesity has tripled in the last 30 years. The CDC defined being overweight and obesity as:
Overweight is defined as having excess body weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these factors. Obesity is defined as having excess body fat.
We can make a change as a family and as a community if we are willing to learn and implement:
Healthier diet
Physical activities
Nutritional supplements
Education/coaching on healthy diets and total wellness
Willingness to make a change, doing it and having the encouragement and support to continue through for long term health and wellness
Below is a video of my short conversation with Dr. Marc Walker, a hospital doctor who sees patients in the hospital, where 80% of the cases are lifestyle related diseases. He said we should take pro-active steps to prevent diseases by nutritional supplementation and exercise.
As your Total Wellness Doc, I would like to come alongside and help you reach your total wellness and take steps to a healthier lifestyle.

Your Children and Teenagers Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Health Depends on Yours
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
The air is crisper, cooler and the nights are longer as we move into the Fall season. It is a time when most families are staying longer indoors and it is time to pull out the coats and the sweaters…welcoming the new season.
As we walk through fallen leaves in our yard, crunching as we go each step of our way, we know, this is also a time when the flu season starts in full force. At work, you hear co-workers talking about the illness and children getting sick. Some of us may miss work to care for our children or to tend our own health issues too.
Staying healthy is more than cold medicine?
Staying healthy involves our mental, emotional and physical strengths. It involves our overall well being. Many are looking for simple ways to prevent and treat colds and flu, but how many are looking for answers to our children's behavior and mood issues.
Let’s start with our well being before we address our children’s. Parents are role models to children and what we eat, do and say each day affects their mental, physical and emotional health and ours as well. So, it starts with us!
What are we feeding our brains each day? Do we start the day with peace or confusion? Here are some ways to start the day right:
Wake up early and start the day with prayer, meditating, and reading. Some recommend no music just silence during your morning quiet time. You can enhance your special time with the Creator with Young Living's essential oil Sacred Frankincense. It is proven to stimulate and elevate the mind and I think it is better than a cup of coffee for waking you up !
This particular type of Frankincense is considered the holy anointing oil used during Bible times. The three Wisemen brought this oil to the Christ child it was considered very valuable. Today science has proven it's affects against everything from gout to cancer inhibiting properties.
Exercise early. Do you exercise at all? Do your children exercise? Exercise is a huge piece of your health care regimen. It not only helps you get and maintain a healthy weight, it also helps improve our mood and energy. Studies also show it helps us fight diseases. Early morning exercise has been proven to help you be more productive throughout the day.
Nutritional Supplements and healthy eating will boost immunity. Junk food is known to reduce energy and may be the cause of unhealthy moods. Start the day with a high protein diet and nutritional supplements like Ningxia Red. Later in the month we will host a blog by an expert in child care who has 40 years experience working with children.
During the recent Young Living Convention in Orlando, Dr. Karen Moody of the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore shared the importance of educating parents of children suffering from cancer. Through their experiences, children who are depressed usually feel that way because of the mother’s depression. Depression may slow down the process of recovery and may trigger illnesses and lower the immune system.
Parent’s healthy mindset and image of themselves and positive outlook on life is essential for the improved quality of life for the whole family most of all teens. Parents many times complain that their children change when they reach teenage years. But we have to look at our own actions, influences and what we did years ago that may have influenced our kids today. Are we always calling ourselves fat or stupid? Are you constantly critiquing our children instead of encouraging? Even sarcasm is not healthy for our children.
Positive outlook does not come naturally to anyone who wasn't raised in it and even then it can be difficult. It is through constant training our minds that we can change our attitudes.
Here are 5 ways of sharpening your mind for a healthy outlook and body:
1. Read books that will challenge your mindset and improve your outlook.
My recommendation Flip the Switch by PJ McClure http://themindsetmaven.com/buy-flip-the-s-w-i-t-c-h/ and Grooming the next Generation by Dani Johnson
2. Find a hobby that you can relax and enjoy, for example gardening or running. Look for a hobby you and your children can do together.
3. Associate with people with a positive and healthy outlook. The saying Birds of a Feather flock together ….so who are your friends. Are they gossippy, grouchy, complainy, or friendly, caring, and positive?
4. Have aromatherapy and a home that promotes harmony and peace. We are not talking about Glade Plug ins. We are talking about pure and natural essential oils like Young Living essential oils Peace and Calming, Harmony oil, or Citrus Fresh. All these blends can be diffused in your home throughout the day. Science has proven that smells like these can uplift moods and feel more relaxed.
5. Go for therapeutic massage or “YOU” treatment. Maybe it is a massage, a Chiropractic adjustment, Raindrop session, Pedicure, or Facial. Taking time out for you with therapeutic touch is healing and positive for your health and your children.
Our children and teens look up to us every single day. When they are not feeling well, happy or sad…who do they call first? Not your neighbor or distance relatives. It is you….they depend on us!
Let’s boost our health by taking care of ourselves…body, mind and soul….then our children…the natural way.

12 Secrets of Reforming Eating Patterns to Reshape Your Body
The following information was gathered from the recent Young Living Convention workshop with Marc Schreuder, Young Living’s Director of Product Formulation held in Orlando, Florida.
What do you think is the secret to losing weight? Many companies have come up with the latest how-tos and consumers have bought into billions of dollars worth of products and services, yet America as a country is getting fatter and fatter.
Over the years, our food portion and consumption has increased. We are eating more food. Our Body Mass Index (BMI) has increased over the last 20 years, that the country even come out with a statistic for the ‘fat belt’ (states with the most obese and overweight population). It is not unique to America alone. In the United Kingdom, the government is introducing the ‘Fat Tax’.
If there are so many diet programs that worked for many individuals, why not for millions of us? Losing weight involves our mind and body. Without working on your mind, you will not have the body you want.
We need a strategy to lose fat. We have discussed in our past articles here at The Total Wellness System that lack of sleep leads to obesity and allergy medication can cause weight gain. We will discuss in great length in our new Free Report and Coaching Programs.
Here are 12 simple keys you can follow immediately:
Recognize Addiction: The first rule of sustainable weight loss and keeping it off is recognizing you have food addiction. A lot of us are in denial. If you don’t recognize that, this key is of no value to you. Once we recognize our addiction and that we are ‘fed up’ with being overweight and over fed, we can start working on ourselves.
Studies show that the dopamine in obese and overweight people is the same as drug users. The brain of a food addict and the brain of a cocaine addict are the same.
Stay Motivated: This is unique to everyone. What motivates me may not motivate you. You have to find out what motivates you…is it your children, your looks and your total wellness? You need to find a reason to change your habit. If you don’t have a reason, you will not be motivated.
We are creatures of habit. We have our favorite food, places to eat and favorites of everything. It takes work to change our habits. What you do today, will affect your tomorrow. Our lifestyle determines our lifespan and also there is a multigenerational effect link to our weight and eating habits. Dr. Lars Olov Bygren in Sweden research showed that in Overkalix, Sweden, boys who enjoyed those rare overabundant winters — kids who went from normal eating to gluttony in a single season — produced sons and grandsons who lived shorter lives.
Cancer researchers have reported the links between obesity and cancer. Women who are overweight have more chances of getting breast cancer and colon cancer.
Dealing with Stress: Do you eat when you are stressed? Most of us don’t even taste the food we eat. We inhale and gobble them up without realizing it. We sometimes refer to certain food as comfort food.
Stress and obesity are linked and stress unlocks fat cells which creates cortisol. Cortisol is produced by our adrenal gland and will actually make you feel hungrier and increases your appetite when there is stress.
Imagine if you could recognize your stress and take control of it and eat less?
In Brazil, copaiba oil is used on children and adults to reduce stress. Some children are given a teaspoon a day to cope with stress. Copaiba essential oil and Bergamot essential oil will help reduce stress. Inhale Stress Away a couple of minutes before meals.
Recognize Emotional Eating: Are you eating other than being hungry? Do you know when to stop eating? Are your emotions of being happy, sad, bored or excited satisfied by food? Recognize your eating habits… the difference between emotional and hunger eating. Some people need professional help to help recognize their emotions and food.
Breaking Old Habits: To lose weight long term you need to break old habits. Say goodbye to your old habits. Do you reward your child with food? Do we bring our children to a fast food place because they behave or did well in school? When they grow up they have the habit of going for fast food. Studies show that patients with a heart attack will go back to eating fast food after six months. Is that an addiction? Is the old habit of eating fast food difficult to break?
As more and more of us are getting more overweight, more and more fast foods are consumed each day. The price of food has gone up but fast food has not climbed as significantly as raw food.
We, as a society need to unlearn our behavior, reprogram our brain to eat healthier food. Recognize there are pleasure traps everywhere. Pleasure traps are at the check out counter in your local supermarket…convenient and pleasurable candies.
Fasting may be a way to break old habits. It helps us learn to exchange pleasure with happiness. Pleasure is a response to stimulus while happiness is ongoing and goal oriented. Do you know the difference? Fasting may reset our taste buds.
Read Labels: Learn to read labels and the right type of food for you and your family. Low fat foods are sold by the billions each year since 1993. It was $18 billion in 1993 and in 2009, reached $50 billion. However, we are still getting fatter. We, as a society, are trying hard and buying low fat food but is that our answer?
Low fat food is high in carbohydrate. The right type of fat may be good for you because the lack of fat is now replaced by carbohydrates and sugary foods. The good fats are coconut oil, walnut oil, flax seed oil, olive oil, cocoa butter oil and Omega 3 oil.
Eliminate Sugar: Most of our sugar intake is now in liquid form. The teas, sodas and the energy drink. The white bread and whole wheat bread we consume everyday will be converted into sugar in our blood streams.
The glycemic index of whole wheat bread is 71 while cane sugar is 59. The food you eat will affect your blood sugar. Cancer cells like sugar and they feed on sugar.
Recognize the Pitfalls of Sugar Substitutes: The pink, yellow and blue sugar substitutes that are readily available. One of them can kill ants! Research shows women’s kidney damage is on the rise because of sweeteners.
It also shows that sugar substitutes will make you hungrier. They do the opposite and increase your desire to eat.
Low Glycemic Food: Eat minimally cooked food or raw food. Suggested foods are high fiber foods, beans and lentils.
Blocking Inflammation: Medical research shows, obesity and inflammation are linked together. Oils that are high in carvacrol like Oregano, Ocotea essential oil; Roman Chamomile and German Chamomile are recommended.
Achieve Physical Satiety: You can achieve physical satiety by eating an apple before a meal, suck on a piece of dark chocolate or sip hot Slique Tea.
Yes, Slique Tea is a slimming Spice Tea with Ocotea, Oolong and Cacao. We will be unveiling this in a few weeks.
Use Aroma for Satiety: Aromatherapy can help manage psychological satiety. Slique Tea is formulated to include frankincense and vanilla essential oils. Sipping it 10 minutes before meals will help to reduce food cravings.
Finally, eat your meal slowly, take every bite and honor your food as your daily gift. Savor, smell, cherish and enjoy every bite…honor your good and don’t take advantage of what we have.
Let’s do it together.

Your Health and Your Sex Life
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
Sex within a healthy marriage is awesome and if you have a healthy marriage I don’t have to answer why…..
But the quality of your Sex Life can be a reflection of one or both spouse’s health. Here are some common myths when it comes to sex.
Myth: It is natural as we age for our libido to decrease
Actually this is not correct. If you examine some of the longest living cultures alive today they not only are enjoying sex in their later years but actually conceiving at 50 and 60 without any medical help.
A healthy male will have virility to his late years. And woman way past her sixties in many of these cultures.
What do these cultures have that we don’t in most modernized countries?
Clean Foods no processed foods or sugar.
Daily physical exercise from labor.
Cleansing or Fasting 30-100 days a year.
Nature’s unadulterated medicine.
A lot less Cortisol (stress hormone) raising Stress
In these cultures there are no cases of Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, or Digestive Diseases like Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s.
Myth: It is normal for an older male not be able to have an erection or ejaculation
This is incorrect. Certain diseases like Diabetes, Stenosis of the spinal cord (arthritis pushing on the spinal cord), Bulging discs on the spinal cord, and many medications can all cause issues with sexual performance.
As a Chiropractor I have to say that blockages in your nervous system the body’s Master System may be causing symptoms. Some older men have found regular Chiropractic adjustments very beneficial to their overall health.
Myth: Drugs can fix my “sex problems”
In the past two decades they have found many harmful and even fatal side effects of some common erectile dysfunction drugs.
Ironically the same drugs that are suppose to make us happy (Anti-depressants) have a common side effect of decreased libido. And don’t forget that alcohol and recreational drugs also will affect your sexual performance.
Even something as simple as a cholesterol medication can decrease the cholesterol needed to produce hormones that give us our sex drive.
So if you are having trouble investigate these things first before turning to medications.
Myth: What I eat has no effect on my sexual performance?
This is incorrect, especially if you are trying to have a baby. Men who eat a junk food diet filled with high saturated fats, sugar, and sodas like Mountain DoDo have been found to have a lower motility and sperm count. Over time these things lead to stressed out organs, nervous system, and hormonal system resulting in dis-ease like Diabetes.
NingXia Red is just a highly concentrated fruit drink that is extremely safe for all ages and health conditions. There is no caffeine or herbs in it just nature’s medicine fruits that help to re-build the body. After 6 weeks of 6 oz a day most every person I talk to comments how ALIVE they feel & how much VITALITY they feel. If you would like to know more about NingXia Red go to http://www.starrhealth.myningxia.com/
Myth: Exercise will reduce my Sex Drive
Exercise is an important part of your health and can increase your libido by increasing the Happy Hormones in your body as well as specific hormones that help keep you young.
If you overtrain you can decrease your oomph by stressing the adrenal glands which are an important part of your endocrine hormone system. One great tip for Exercisers is to drink an ounce of NingXia Red in 8 oz of water while you exercise and make sure your body is getting enough minerals, B vitamins, and Fish oils.
This is just a glimpse at what Nutrition and Exercise can do your Sex Life. But here is my Bonus and Advice for those who want it don’t feel you have to take it.
As a spouse who has been through marriage training and individual counseling I would have to say the most effective training we had as a couple was www.firststepstosuccess.com
It may seem weird that we went to a business training to get
our marriage straight but it ended up like that. I tell every person I know that this is where I learned to be a good listener and wife. To honor my husband and build a foundation of success. I won’t comment on my sex life in honor of my husband, but I will end by saying some of the best things you can do for your marriage and sex life happen outside the bedroom.

How to Avoid Getting Run Down?
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
1) Sleep: We all know it is important to get a good night's sleep. 6-8 hrs ideally with at least 4 hours uninterrupted. This means no bathroom tips, rollovers, sips of water, no nothing but REM sleep.
It's easy to get run down when you are sleeping regularly. If you are not getting good quality sleep or you know you won't be getting much sleep then plan a cat nap. Take your lunch break outdoors in the sun with a blanket and a 20 minute snooze, or in your car with the seat back and your eyes closed. Don't worry what people think your body needs just a little bit of rest to help get you through the day.
2) Plan Ahead: Ever feel like chicken with their head cut off? Running everywhere but getting no where. If that's you it's important to carve out 10 minutes in your day to plan. Planning can help keep your cortisol "stress hormone" down and your energy up. Don't give me an excuse that you don't have time. Get yourself up 30 minutes earlier in the morning and get it done. You will thank me later when your stress is less.
3) Delegate: Stop thinking you can do it all, because you were not made to do all things. In Proverbs 31 it talks of this amazing woman who is a mother, business owner, home maker, land owner, wife and more. But guess what she doesn't do it by herself it clearly states she actually had servants. Now you may not be able to afford servants but you can delegate. Can your friend grab some groceries for you? Can you ask a High School student to come in and help you with laundry once a week? I wrote about Support Systems before in
Start implementing them today so you can avoid getting run down.
4) Drink Water Your fountain of energy and youth come from WATER. That's right. Make sure you are drinking plenty of it, especially is stressful times. Half your body weight in ounces.
5) Say No: Take responsibility for getting run down because you allowed yourself to get there. Start saying no to obligations or jobs. Make sure you know your #1 priority and goals so that when something comes up you can say Yes to those things that help you get to your goals and no to those that don't.
6) Supplement Nutrition: A key factor in those who are sick and those who aren't. My favorite #1 Keep me Healthy drink is called NingXia Red Every single client who takes 2-4 oz a day always says how much more energy they have and how less often they get sick. Try it for a month and see if you feel the difference. If you don't we will give you your money back.
7) Germ Fighters: I use several different methods for germ fighting.1. Thieves Essential oil which when applied to the bottom of my feet everyday helps keeps my body strong. 2. Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier. An absolute must when you travel and for the purse, especially if you have children. 3. thieves lozenges. My quote is "One Thieves lozenge a day keeps the doctor away". 4. Inner Defense an internal supplement which can be taken when you get sick 4 or more capsules a day and to prevent colds and flu by taking one a day.
I am sharing all of this with you because I am lying in bed right now with a runny nose and slightly sore throat because I didn't listen to my own advice. But after 5 Thieves Lozenges and 5 Inner Defense capsules today I am doing much better. I will put Thieves oil on my feet, back and neck along and should be better tomorrow. I will let you know.
We like to hear from you. Please leave your comment below.

The Health Care Package
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
Care and Feeding of your College Students
Here are some of the challenges of living in College Dorms or College Apartment living. I can tell you from experience because of my degree I spent 9 years in college. Avoiding the Freshmen 15lbs, dealing with new stressors and lack of sleep can be hard. College students are prone to higher incidence of colds and flu, fungal infections, and bacteria infections.
Many parents pay for or help support their child's education, but rarely do we think of supporting their health. Why not start sending them a Health Care Package. Here is what you would put in it and why.
Ear Plugs: there are so many distractions at college that your child may have a hard time focusing or even sleeping at night because of all the noise. When I was in school ear plugs were my best friend. They help you tune out and are able to concentrate or sleep when you need to.
Most freshmen going off to college will be sharing a small room with one or two other individuals as well as living quarters with dozens more. Dorm life can be quite loud and different from the comfort of home. With many students studying late and getting up early Quality Sleep can be an important factor to your child's success.
Sleep Eye Mask: Sounds kind of weird but both men and women have found an eye mask to be very beneficial. Some roommates set up their dorm room so their bed is shielded from light.
As I have stated in previous blogs the body will deteriorate with sleep cycles less than 4 hours. We must get a full 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Now most of us need much more than this but if a room mate or something is causing them to wake up several times in the middle of the night their health will suffer. Make sure you children know this too.
Essential oils
Tranquil Roll on : Young Living's Lavender oil has been researched to be more effective than the leading OTC sleep medicine. Tranquil Roll on has Lavender, Chamomile and Cedarwood which not only helps you get a restful night sleep but is great for calming the brain. Just roll on the feet, ears and neck before bed or just put on a pillow and sleep is yours.
Deep Relief Roll on: Studying long hours can not only make you tired but lead to neck pain and headaches. Just apply deep relief to the temples and back of the neck and the pain is gone in minutes but a wonderful cooling sensation is left. This blend of Young Living Essential oils contains Peppermint which has scientifically been found to improve concentration too. So while studying just add a smudge to a tissue and inhale.
Stress Away: College is very stressful. 18-30 hrs of classroom & lab time along with as much or even 2 times that in studying. Many college students also have to work part time to earn money for their school. Stress Stress Stress. But did you know the body has a simple system to relieve stress. It is called your Olfactory System or your sense of smell. Certain smells calm the body so it can better deal with stress. Young Living put together many of these oils into one blend called Stress Away. An easy to use roll on you can keep in your pocket for those stressful times. I actually advise inhaling it 7 different times throughout the day. Some wear it as cologne or perfume.
Not only can all these tools help with dealing with stress and getting better sleep but your nutrition also plays a big role in the health of the body.
Nutrition:
Carbozyme: College can be one of the poorest eating periods of our life. With access to pizza, cookies, cakes, soda, and ice cream 24/7 Carbohydrate binging is common. This can cause swings in blood sugar along with moodiness, depression and fatigue. I highly encourage most everyone take enzymes most of their life but this enzyme Carbozyme really helps digest those foods that are bad for us. Not only do our clients notice their blood sugar balance improved but many notice weight loss too. Carbozyme is a good choice for keeping off the Freshmen 15lbs.
NingXia Red: is another great choice for keeping college students healthy. Just one ounce has more Vitamin C then Oranges, more Beta Carotene than carrots, 12 minerals, 18 amino acids and lots of other good stuff all natural. This is a great alternative to those energy drinks like Monster, Red Bull, and 6 hr Energy drinks. NingXia Red not only tastes great but it comes in simple 1 oz packets that you can easily take daily in water or straight. For athletes and poor eaters 2-3 oz of day will not only improve athletic performance but also energy levels, and strengthen the immune systems. Athletic teams who all drank NingXia Red had a much less rate in colds and flu and noticeable improvement in performance.
So Here is Everything in your
Health Care Package
Ear Plugs,
Eye Masks,
Young Living's Tranquil Roll on ,
Young Living's Deep Relief Roll on
Young Living's Stress Away Roll on,
and a Month's supply of Young Living's Carbozyme
and Young Living's NingXia Red
The Health Care Package will cost about $150.
A Monthly Maintenance Care Package cost about $100 dollars.
This extra $1200 dollars a year investment in your child's health may have a great impact on their future.

Editor's note:
Today my heart is hurting for several of my clients. This weekend they will become empty nesters saying goodbye to all their children as they go off to college. One amazing single mom has raised her three girls for the past 25 years. She, like many others is struggling through terrible grief. Today's article shares some strategies that will help many parents deal with that sadness. Written by my friend and colleague Jeannette Webb of Aiming Higher Consultants she knows your pain personally and has helped hundreds of parents and college bound children navigate the college admissions process.
Tips for Staying Sane When Kids Leave For College
By Jeannette Webb
While much of the world seems eager for their kids to grow up and get out of the house, I haven't found that to be the case for the families I know and work with. In fact, many parents fight valiantly to ignore the ache in their heart that reaches a crescendo when their child leaves home for college. It's not something many people talk about and even though we know it's going to be difficult, the utter desolation can threaten to overwhelm a parent when the day finally comes.
I was totally unprepared for the depth of my grief when my oldest left home.
Fortunately, I had a dear friend ahead of me on the journey and she shared some strategies that made things bearable.
1. Make some physical changes
There are many ways to implement this, but let me give you an example. Families who are close usually place a high priority on sharing meals together. That is a wonderful habit that can cause great pain when there is an empty place at the table. My friend told me firmly to get rid of that empty space.
Since, we are a family of four and dine at a round table that just fits us, I moved from my usual seat and sat in my son's seat and placed a centerpiece in my old spot. I removed his chair to storage. It totally changed my vantage point and I wasn't seeing his empty place or his unoccupied chair.
When my daughter left home, I shoved the table up against the wall, moved her chair to storage and set out two placemats at the two remaining chairs with a centerpiece in the center.
2. Remove reminders
Sometimes it's the little things that can bring tears. I realized, after crying a few times in the shower, that my daughter's shampoo and other "shower stuff" was still in place even though she wasn't. I took it all out and stored it out of sight in a cabinet where it would be waiting for her return.
I kept catching sight of my gloomy self in the large mirror she uses for violin practice in the living room. It got moved to her bedroom and no longer serves as a reminder that she isn't there practicing.
3. Stay interruptible
Life stays busy even after kids leave home, but it is imperative that you stay available for them. Our kids are going through an even greater adjustment than we are and if we are too busy to talk when they call, they will eventually quit calling at all. My kids and I have grown even closer through their college years because I made it my priority to be there for them as they were navigating new things. We've laughed and cried, shared successes and failure, and tightened the family bond while the cell phone minutes ticked away. Trust me, it's worth the expense to avoid the consequences. I've talked with moms who didn't make the time to be present for their young adults and then they couldn't figure out why the kid got into trouble at college.
4. Talk to people
Most parents going through the pain of kids leaving home assume they are the only ones suffering and so stay silent. I recently had a conversation with an old friend and we discovered that we'd both battled tremendous grief over our children leaving home and had gone through it alone. If we'd opened up, we could have planned special get-togethers to laugh over our high school pranks, go shopping, or anything to make it through. But we wouldn't have had to face things alone.
If you are facing the empty nest this year, take steps to make life more bearable. If you have friends who are facing it (even though you are not), invite them to lunch, give them reasons to laugh, and be there for them. There is a reason Christians are instructed to do life together with other believers.
Editor's recommendation to reduce stress:
In addition I have to add that inhaling Young Living Essential oils like Citrus Fresh, Stress Away, Sacred Frankincense, Joy and Valor 10 or more times a day can give you a great sense of peace.

The Care and Feeding of Your Children: HYDRATION
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
Acne, Headaches, Bad Breath, Constipation, Cramping, Poor Concentration, Depression, Anxiety, Moodiness, Mental Fogginess
These symptoms might be what your teenager struggles with or even yourself. What you drink could contribute to all these things. Here are some simple suggestions that can help reduce some of these symptoms.
Make sure your children have proper hydration. WATER
FLAVORED WATERS
Flavored waters are expensive and not as healthy as you may think. Did you know that one bottle of Vitamin Water packs in 125 calories and 32.5g of sugar?
Ideally the best drink for your family is pure water. No chlorine, no fluoride just plain good most likely filtered water. (There are a variety of different water filtration and alkalizing machines and I will discuss that in another blog in the coming months.)
A HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE TO FLAVORED WATERS
Start your kids young liking pure water. If someone in your family doesn't like the taste of water try some of Young Living Essential oils in your water. I get a big glass (must be glass) bottle and put my pure water and choose from Orange, Tangerine, Citrus Fresh, Grapefruit, Peppermint, Spearmint and even Cinnamon oil. Pick an oil put 1 drop in the water and it is like a whole new drink plus you are getting all the added benefits of the Young Living Essential oils. Pick something and try it yourself first before giving it to the family.
HOW MUCH WATER?
The amount of fluids we need everyday from our drink and food should equal half our body weight in oz per day. If your an athlete be sure to stay hydrated before, during and after your events. If you are going to still drink Soda, Coffee or Caffeinated drinks then you must drink double that amount in water to make up for it.
HOW HYDRATED ARE YOU?
If you want to see how hydrated you or your children are you can purchase a scale that measures weight and water hydration. This can give you an estimate of if you or
SODA POP
Hopefully I don't have to tell you how bad sodas are for the body especially growing bodies. They are particularly harmful because Soda leaches calcium from our bones, wears the enamel off of our teeth, increases our chance of obesity, spikes blood sugar levels, and children who drink soda are 4 times as likely to have a broken bone.
A HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE TO SODA POP
Adults use soda to help pep them up or because they just like it. Children can easily get addicted to the sugar in soda. NingXia Red is a juice with 50% wolfberry which has essential amino-acids, vitamins and minerals the body needs. 1 ounce of NingXia Red has more antioxidants than eating 8 oranges, 4 lbs of carrots, 2 cups of blueberries, 2 cups of raspberry and you get the picture. ITS GOOD STUFF. And taste good.
So make your own soda with NingXia Red. Not everyday but occasionally treat your kids to a healthy soda with seltzer water an ounce of NingXia Red juice. This is our family's favorite because it tastes like a fruit soda but we are getting all the benefits of NingXia Red. NingXia Red is far superior to many Energy Drinks like Red Bull and Monster because they give sustainable energy to the body. If your child struggles with fatigue increase their Ningxia Red consumption to 2 oz twice a day and see how they do.
"Even though my 23 year old son doesn't eat the best but I know he is getting good nutrition because he has his NingXia Red everyday. I know I can trust NingXia Red." Kathryn Faso
“My daughter is a High School athlete who used to be sick all the time. Now I give her NingXia Red everyday 1 oz and 2 oz if she has practice or a big game. Her coaches notice a difference and she has rarely been sick this year." Hannibal NY
"My child was 2 years old and non-verbal and still not walking. We were very concerned. After just 6 weeks of giving her 2 ounces a day she started saying words and walking. I know it the nutrition in NingXia Red changed her." Mesa Arizona
You can also do seltzer water with Lemon, Citrus Fresh or Grapefruit essential oil and a little Stevia to sweeten it. Some grocery stores carry Zevia a delicious healthy soda. Again though make these a treat and not an everyday occurrence. Your wallet will thank you.
Stop Buying Juices
I know this may come as a shock to you but Juices can be harmful to your children's health. One glass of Orange Juice has 18 grams of sugar. Even if your sugar is natural from a fruit 18 grams of sugar will spike your teenager’s blood sugar and could result in low energy and moodiness. If you have to have juices dilute them with water 50/50.
"I was pregnant and developed Gestational Diabetes. My doctor said it was because of all the Orange Juice and juices I was drinking."
A HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE
We have already discussed NingXia Red which 1 oz can be diluted in 8-12 oz of water. But if you like juices think about squeezing or juicing your own. You will get 50% more nutrition and enzymes because FRESH IS BEST. The Champion Juicer is my favorite but the Jack Lalane Juicer is a close second. It can be fun as you can have your kids choose the fruit and veggies they want in their drink. There are lots more nutrients and enzymes you don't get with other store bought juices. My favorite Lemonade is 4 organic apples with 1 lemon after it's juiced I add water and ice and it is fabulous! The whole family will love it!
Whether you family member is 2 or 90 years old they can benefit from changes we suggest in this article. Now pick one thing you can do today to start Caring and Feeding your family for Total Wellness.

The Care and Feeding of your Family: Teenagers
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
Soccer, Football, Dance, Cheer leading, Marching Band, Tennis, Cross Country are just some of the Fall Sports starting up again. Children ages 12-18 play the majority of these sports in Middle School to High School. These teenage years are full of change and development. A very important time that may determine a person's future. Grades, athletic performance, learning a trade, attitude, behavior, social development all can be affected by WHAT YOUR CHILDREN EAT.
Parents of kids in sports spend a lot of their time, money and energy making sure their children have the right sneakers, best gear, and that they can make it to all the practices and games. Why? One parent told me "I want my kids to have the opportunities I didn't have as a kid". Yet she just dropped off a large pizza and soda to her two obese children.
She was doing all she could do to keep up with all the practices and games. She made sure she was at every event, but neglected proper feeding of her teenage athletes. The result was two obese children. What will their life be like 10 years from now or 20 years from now? Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Rapid Aging, Infertility and the list goes on.
This is a serious problem and although you may not have obese children you still could have nutritionally deficient kids. And although this is just my personal opinion you may be unknowingly or knowingly setting your children up for a very difficult life.
We must learn to feed our children properly especially our teenagers and teenage athletes. Why?
Adolescents include growth spurts, body changes and hormone changes. So many parents complain of their teenage daughters or sons becoming "monsters" or other words we won't use here when they went through puberty. Why are American children having significantly more physical and psychological issues compared to other countries, even some third world countries?
My opinion is NUTRITION or lack of it is killing our children. It may not happen today or tomorrow but within just a few years you can begin to see the effects of poor nutrition.
Did you know that nutritional deficiencies and sugar imbalances can cause fits of rage? Did you know that the teenage body requires certain amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fats that you simply cannot get from typical processed, fast foods, packaged foods?
Now add athleticism and you have even more requirements. My personal opinion is that schools are not just feeding our children poor nutrition and offering foods and soda that harm our kids but are we also starving our kids. That's right STARVING… Because, see, when a child goes to school they may have lunch at 10 am but not be allowed to eat again until 3pm or later if they are an athlete. Added to that, the lack of nutrition in our school lunches and what do we have?
Several studies have confirmed that children eating whole foods, vegetables, and healthy options during their school lunches and snacks scored higher in various tests, had fewer missed days of school and less behavioral problems.
Many parents think their children's behavior problem is a psychological condition and put them on medications like Ritalin or an Anti-depressant. YIKES, WAKE UP! It's what you are feeding your children or not feeding your children. Even conditions like allergies and asthma can be improved by feeding your children correctly.
So what can you do? Well you will have to wait until Thursday to get part II of this newsletter…. don't miss Thursdays Blog. Parents pay me over $300 to give them the information you will be getting in Thursday's blog. The results they get from those who apply it is amazing.
"My child is getting A's and B's in school for the first time, since we changed to the Wellness program. "
"My son scored 4 goals for the first time this week, and his coach says his performance has improved 100% this season."
"Sarah's singing has dramatically improved since following your suggestions. Her voice is stronger and she rarely gets sick now."
Here is a sneak Peak.
#1) Make sure your children have proper hydration.
Get rid of the soda in the house. Make it for special occasions once a week at the most.
Get rid of the juices in the house including Orange Juice. If you want to drink juice squeeze or juice your own. You will get 50% more nutrition because FRESH IS BEST. There are lots more nutrients and enzymes you don't get with other.

How to live healthy and happy at 100 years old?
By Dr. Mary Starr Carter
When you have a debilitating disease like Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue syndrome you can only think about how you are going to make it through the day let alone another 10, 20, or 30 years. It can become very overwhelming but whether you are in okay health or have a serious illness there are some simple things we can do everyday.
Every morning at 5:30am you can find Gordon out walking. He walks 3-4 miles at an 18 min mile pace. He lives in and maintains his own home. Gordon eats small meals, lots of fruit, not a lot of red meat, and he takes nutritional supplements like NingXia Red. He enjoys his afternoon nap, reads about the latest in health and nutrition, still drives and enjoys traveling all over the country to see his family. Gordon says he plans on living healthy and happy another 10 years.
When you drive by Shirley's home you will know what her passion is gardening. She has some of the most beautiful small gardens in town. You can find outside caring for her garden most days. Her other passion is dancing and she can dance most 40 year olds pants off. She prepares her meals, eats small portions and lots of veggies. She is an excellent cook, drives her own car, crochets, reads lot of cookbooks and experiments in the kitchen every week.
Vita "Vitamin" as she is known to her family and friends is like a little energizer bunny even at 87 years old. She doesn't drink any coffee or tea, takes no medications but does take her nutrition juice NingXia Red every day. She walks so fast that her 30 year old grandchildren have a hard time keeping up. She reads 1-2 books a week. She is an excellent cook preparing food 5-6 days of the week and going out with friends 1-2 times a week.
So what can we learn about living to 100 years old from these 3 very healthy 90 year olds?
- Daily Exercise and Movement: the longest living cultures all over the world have this same factor in common Daily Physical Activity. Even if you have Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue you can find ways to move your body even if it is just for circulation purposes. Machines like the Chi machine shake your body while you are lying down. You can burn calories, move lymph and toxins and help maintain your health all while taking a nap.
- Eat regularly and small portions. Did you know that over eating not only makes you gain weight but it also congests the liver? A congested liver can lead to high cholesterol, blood pressure and host of other ailments.
- Read: Keep the mind active. Scientifically proven that the more you read, do thinking games like Sudoku and even math problems help maintain cognitive function longer.
* less TV. Watching TV for hours a day takes less mental energy than sleeping. In my opinion clients who watch a lot of TV have worse health than those that don't.
- Supplement your diet: After the age of 30 our digestive enzymes begin to reduce. By the time we are 80 digestions can be slow and hindered. I have worked with many geriatric clients that were malnourished even though they ate a "healthy diet". Nutrition like NingXia Red which is a liquid juice can make a significant improvement on a geriatric client's health. I have seen it even do remarkable things for young children including autistic and ADD children.
- Relax and Have fun: Having something to look forward to is important at any age but especially when you single, widowed, or have lost many of your friends as these three have. Planning a trip, a garden, having a job or person you help is very very important to your mental happiness. Your mental happiness is very important to your longevity.
So this is what I have learned from these three amazing individuals…… How to stay YOUNG and HAVE FUN!

Do you remember Cod Liver oil? The awful tasting stuff your mother or grandmother would make you take when you were sick or if you were lucky every day. Well you might not think so then but today science has proven it was and is REALLY GOOD STUFF. One of the reasons is the high amount of Vitamin D in it.
What is Vitamin D?
Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin found in very few foods with cod liver oil having the highest quantities. It also can naturally be made by our bodies when the ultraviolet rays of the sun hit our skin.
Why is it Important?
Not only is it important for the strength of our bones and calcium absorption but research is finding that Vitamin D deficiency may be linked to certain autoimmune conditions such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, dementia and certain cancers. WOW right.
Who is lacking Vitamin D ?
Although research varies it is estimated that more than 90 % of Americans have low levels of Vitamin D and children are becoming more and defieincent. But here is a list of groups who are most at risk:
Breast Fed Infants,
Older Adults
People with limited sun exposure
People with dark skin
People with problems digesting fat
Obese people
And those who have had Gastric Bypass
Some Drugs prevent Vitamin D absorption
Certain Steroids like Prednisone
Both the weight-loss drug Xenical and Alli and the cholesterol-lowering drugs Questran, LoCholest, and Prevalite can reduce the absorption of vitamin D and other fat-soluble vitamins And the anti-seizure medicine Dilantin.
How do I know my Vitamin D levels?
Many doctors are prescribing Vitamin D testing for patients, but you can also request it. There are take home Vitamin D Deficiency test that will cost you about $65. If you are into saving money you might want to consider just taking Vitamin D.
.
How do I get enough Vitamin D?
Northerners don't expect the sun to the do the job from October to April. The UV rays we need are not strong enough so here are some of my recommendations. Get tested so you have a base line to go from and then supplement with the following. With low levels take 4000IUs of Liquid Vitamin D3 (I believe liquid is more absorbable) or a great source of Cod liver oil. My recommendation for D3 is Carlson Labs liquid D3 drops 2000IUs. Also if you struggle with Seasonal Affect Disorder also known as the winter blues I recommend getting in the tanning bed for 5-30 minutes two times a week. Be sure to check the facilitiy that the beds emitt UVB rays and follow their tanning guidelines.
My findings
In my practice several of my fibromyalgia clients had been prescribed Vitamin D by their primary MDs. The clients saw improvements in their energy levels and pain after just a month of supplementing.
The other thing I find so interesting is that there are no Multiple Sclerosis cases near the equator and I bet a lot less cases of Rhematoid, Lupus, Fibromyalgia etc…. in my Central NY town half of the over 60 year olds go to Florida for the winter. Most of them say they feel so much better with less pain and more energy. Could there be a link between Vitamin D and sunlight?
The Total Wellness doctor thinks so!
Conclusion
Research shows vitamin D gives you a much a better chance of preventing illnesses such as: Heart Disease, Hypertension, Arthritis, Chronic Pain, Depression, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Obesity, Premenstrual Syndrome, Muscular Weakness, Fibromyalgia, Crohns Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Autoimmune Illness, and Cancer. so,…..
Get your baseline Vitamin D tested start supplementing your diet or get some artificial sun or real sun depending where you live and what time of the year.
