Tips for your Stressful Weeks

tips to better sleep
It’s 4 am and I can’t sleep. It’s been a full couple of days and I have a lot on my mind. My husband and I have worked as a powerhouse team in life and business these last 4 days. It is amazing what we can do and handle when we have too.

In the last 4 days we spent hours doing client care and leadership development, made it to the last stages of hiring a new staff member, prepped and launched a class, recorded a business training review, which resulted in our home business growing by 15% ending October with a new record month in sales.

In our full time job at home where we are grooming, schooling and raising kids. We also enjoyed going to the pumpkin corn maize farm, hair cuts, cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping, volunteering, setting our monthly budget, paying the bills which resulted in another personal debt demolished.

Having a full and busy life might be your normal routine but add in 2 kids who also came down with an intense stomach bug and the last 4 days were also spent taking turns cleaning up poopy messes and monitoring temperatures every other hour. We are on the tail end of it and although it was a tough 4 days, we made it through.

How do you get through Tough Times? Here are of my helpful hints:

Tips for your Stressful Weeks
1. Team Work
This is our number ONE strategy in getting through stressful times. Together you make a list and prioritize what needs to get done and who will do it. Make sure one partner is not getting stuck all day with no sleep and cleaning up messes.  This may require a spouse to take a day off, cancel an appointment or activities, and most likely sacrifice regular routines.

2. Use your Essential Oils
When you are stressed it is so important to use your essential oils day in and day out. My favorites through tough times are Stress Away, Idaho Black Spruce or Idaho Balsam Fir, Joy and Peace and Calming all by Young Living Essential Oils.

I try to wear them as perfume during the day, at night for bed, and even put them on sore muscles. I recommend applying them at least 2-3 times a day topically and inhaling them from the bottle or tissue 10 times a day. Long deep breaths for 30 seconds to a minute really help lower your stress.

3. Pray
STRESS and WORRY can be hard to avoid when you go through a tough time. Whether it is days or weeks. I recently watched some family members totally rely on Christ when they were given some difficult news about their health. In the end it was God who pulled through with a positive outcome. Worry robs your own health. Relying on Christ doesn’t mean you don’t monitor things or use medical intervention when needed it just means you know where your source and strength comes from.

4. Energy Support
During challenging times it’s easy to go for the carbs, cookies, and coffee. NingXia Red, NingXia Zyng, and NingXia Nitro are 3 products can help your body during stressful times. NingXia Red is our overall nutritional supplement juice it’s delicious and nutritious for all ages. NingXia Zyng is my go to drink when I need a little kick. I love the refreshing taste and I instantly feel more alert and focused.

But on my longest days with little sleep I add NingXia Nitro to my routine. It’s a much safer energy shot with lots of vitamins and nutrition and very little caffeine. None of these NingXia products give you a crash and burn like those other energy products and during my hardest days NingXia Red helps me keep my energy up, stay positive, and have more patience.

5. Diffusing
When you have stress, diffusing essential oils is important. When you have sick smell throughout your house from diarrhea, diffusing essential oils is a necessity. Diffusing Young Living essential oils are a much safer solution to freshen the air than chemical sprays, plug ins and even candles. Toxin free blends like Purification or RC essential oils are some of my favorite ways to freshen the air. You can get a set of 10 different essential oils and a diffuser in our Premium Start Living kit.

6. REST
Lack of sleep is the one thing that can destroy your patience, health, and happiness during tough times. When we get very little sleep because of a little one being sick or our work schedule we will take turns giving each other some rest time. This means that one spouse might take care of the kids when they come home from work so the other can take a nap.  It may mean instead of working during the kids naptime we sleep too. Or in the worse times it means we take turns, one spouse will take care of the kids while the other sleeps.  You must find strategies for getting rest.

7. Hire Help
You may think you can’t afford it but you can’t afford not too. Getting a helper for a few hours a week so you can take a nap, go to an exercise class, get the grocery shopping done quickly, or simply have them help with preparing meals, do dishes or laundry can mean the difference between your health and happiness.

I started with hiring some responsible high school students for a couple hours a week and eventually moved to get help daily with childcare and home responsibilities. Even trading with another mom, getting a grandparent to help, and simply asking for help will help your situation. You are not less of a mom or parent just because you can’t do it all, and sometimes you actually may be able to do it better than anyone you hire, but just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Letting go is one of the hardest thing you can do, but it also allows you to become your best.

So I hope you will make your health a priority especially during difficult times.  Use some of these simple tips and techniques to take some of the stress off.  Let me know how it goes.

5 Benefits Of Juicing For Your Family

By | Essential Oils, Food, Total Wellness, Weight Loss | No Comments

benefits of juicing

This past weekend I watched a powerful documentary on the Gerson Therapy called Dying to have Known. A big part of this Gerson Therapy, which helps restore even the most diseased body to health is JUICING. It reinvigorated me to start juicing again.  Ironically two days after watching the movie, I walked into the room where my toddler was watching Curious George on PBS. Guess what? Curious George the monkey was juicing with The Man with the Yellow Hat. Even monkeys think juicing is important. Too funny I think it was a sign.

The episode showed how George and The Man with the Yellow Hat were hooked on Juicy Jay’s special blended juice and bought the juicer to create their own drink at home. As with all Curious George stories, he always ends up learning something new and benefits from the lesson. George recreated, experimented and messed up but ultimately learned to create a juice that impresses Juicy Jay. Here is the link for parents or grandparents with kids who like Curious George.

Are you a juicer? Before I continue on with the benefits of juicing, here are two articles that I’ve written about juicing:

Juice Detox Fast
7 Days of Juice Fasting – Almost

Juicing is not easy. I’ve experienced so many benefits of juicing and here are five benefits:

One: Fortifying and healing the body
Interestingly my last two pregnancies happened (I conceived) while I was juicing daily. It was important to re-fortify and heal my body especially after a miscarriage.

Two: Help ward off dis-ease
In reality, fast and processed foods are the foods that most Americans are consuming each day. Healthy eating takes effort and planning. Most of us grew up eating less than the recommended amount of vegetables and fruits per day. Juicing will allow us to consume a huge selection of fruits and vegetables per day.

Imagine if we did just a juice a day with raw, unprocessed fruits and vegetables! Our body will absorb all the nutrients and gain health benefits from the fruits and vegetables. What an incredible way to ward off dis-ease with natural wholesome foods.

Three: Provide high quality nutrition
Raw fruits and vegetables provide minerals, vitamins, phytonutrients, antioxidants and other high quality nutrition for our body. Some nutrients and important enzymes found in vegetables may be destroyed when cooked.

Freshly pressed juice from raw vegetables and fruits provide the most high quality nutrition according to Gerson.org. According to Gerson.org:

By juicing, patients can take in the nutrients and enzymes from nearly 15 pounds of produce every day, in a manner that is easy to digest and absorb.

The Gerson Therapy uses organic, vegetarian diet, raw juices, coffee enemas and natural supplements to help the body heal itself. This therapy was started by Dr. Max Gerson in the 1930s initially to help with his migraines. He eventually developed it into treating degenerative diseases such as skin tuberculosis, diabetes and cancer.

You can read more by visiting Gerson.org.

Four: Lose some weight
Fruits and vegetables contain low calories and fats and have a good source of dietary fiber. Losing weight takes more than consuming a certain type of food or exercise. It involves your total being- your body, mind and soul.

Juicing may help with weight loss because you will be consuming fewer calories and vegetables can help balance our body’s pH. Alkaline foods will help release acidity and fat cells in our body.

Five: Gain more energy and look younger
My accountant, Joanne Del Bolso is living proof of a person who benefited from juicing. She looked radiant and younger when I saw her after tax season when most accountants were either drained or burned out.

Juicing helps to flush out toxins. This will lead to an increase of energy, clearer mind and more radiant skin.

About fruits and vegetables:
Before you start using, you need to have a plan of action, the right equipment and a shopping list. Remember not all fruits and vegetables are created equal.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) organization releases a yearly list called the Dirty Dozen. The Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce will help you determine which fruits and vegetables to avoid or buy organic.

There is no denying that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables brings benefits to our health but we need to be informed about pesticide exposure as well. Here is a link to the EWG website and list of Dirty Dozen Plus and Clean Fifteen.

About cleaning the juicer:
Some of us may hate the cleaning up processes after drinking the juice. Whatever type of juicer you use, it is important to note that proper cleaning is essential to good health. Clean your juicer immediately after use to prevent contamination or bacteria build up.

For easier, faster and more effective cleaning, use Lemon essential oil and Thieves essential oil with a clean brush and brush off all the pulps and remnants from the juicer. This will prevent mold growth.

What is your plan of action?
There are many ways to juicing. Consult with your health care professional (a professional knowledgeable about nutrition and juicing) and decide on what type of juicing is beneficial to your health.

Marriage Exercise: 101 Things That I Love About My Spouse

By | Essential Oils, Marriage, Total Wellness | 3 Comments

marriage exercise

Let’s face it- marriage is not easy. A joy-filled loving marriage is even harder to develop. Many couples are more like roommates than happily, passionately in love with their spouse. How does this happen?

I recently heard a friend say when I commented about the lack of time he and his wife have together, “Well when you have been married as long as we have it just works.” I felt sad about that comment.  I felt sad because I know it doesn’t have to be that way.

I know because I have examples in my life of couples married over 40 or even 50 years who still love each other deeply and want to spend quality time with each other.

So how do we stay or grow to fall in love with our spouse even deeper? I came up with this Marriage Exercise while on my own weekly date night the other night. I think it can help you fall more passionately in love with your spouse too.

Our tendency as humans is to focus on the faults, annoying things, frustrations, angers, and past hurts of our spouse. And the fact is daily our spouse could be hurtful, annoying, frustrating, or make us angry. So how do we change our focus and mindset? I think I found an answer.

This is an exercise I did the other day just for fun on one of our date nights. We had an hour drive and I thought I am going to tell my husband 101 ways why I love him.

Quite honestly at first I thought it was going to be difficult and that I maybe could get to 20. But then something happened once I focused on all the things I love about him. I started being reminded of more things that he has done or traits he has that I love. It was really fun. I was speaking LIFE into my husband.

And then as I got towards the end I started telling him things that I love about him that has not happened yet. It was like speaking a prophetic Word into his life. And the results surprised me.

When we got home that night he was so loving and caring for me (and not just because it was date night). See when you have little kids, a business to run, and health challenges you know that by the end of the day you are exhausted and sometimes impatient and probably not so loving feeling. But it was like the Words I spoke over my husband gave him energy, love, and the ability to feed me “caring and love”.

It was awesome… and when he did something later that was a little frustrating instead of getting frustrated and upset I focused on why I love him and told him some. It diffused the bad emotions and brought in the good.

So I don’t know if this exercise will work for you but why not try it.

1. Get your journal and start with 10 reasons you love your spouse.

2. When you get to 10 keep going and see how far you can get… here are a few ideas:

Think about his/her talents, qualities, physical features you love, things they have done you have been proud of or things they have done for the family or you. Their way with your children.

3. Now think about their dreams and goals and write down reasons you love them as if they have achieved those dreams and goals. Make sure they are their dreams or at least your mutual dreams together. For example:

I love you because you worked so hard to get healthy and you did it.

I love you because you have helped our family get out of debt.

I love you because you have created a legacy for our children.

4. Now go test a few of these things out with your spouse. Make sure they are in a space for listening and receiving your words. Sometimes you might have to write them a letter or card.

Let me know how it goes. It may sound silly to you because you just aren’t in that happy place with your marriage or maybe like my friend you have been married a long time, but WHY NOT just try it. What do you have to lose? And keep trying it.

Give your spouse Words of Love and Encouragement for the next 10 days and see what happens. And if you are still struggling, try Shutran essential oil blend. It is beautiful romantic cologne or perfume that can be worn daily, diffused or just saved for special nights that can help you both feel more loving. We love SHUTRAN.

I will pray for your success and awesome changes in your marriage. Have you wrestled with how to use essential oils

Biblically when the New Age Influence is so strong?

Live Webinar May 5, 2015

In this refreshing discussion – completely free from either paranoia or obsession – your hosts will frankly, and openly discuss what place essential oils have in today’s Christian homes. The New Age movements counterfeits have long kept Christians bound in fear and unwilling to use God’s natural remedies. Your hosts will help you understand what is fraudulent, and how the New Age movement is actually imitating something real. Our job is to search out the real, and to not take part in the counterfeit

We do not need to operate in fear, or reject what God has created because the enemy has tried to taint it. We need to claim what is ours and use what God created for us as good.

The Bible frequently speaks of anointing, ointment, and perfume. What does it mean? How does this fit into our modern lives?

The Difference Between Essential oils: Part 1

By | Essential Oils, Total Wellness | One Comment

Grapefruit -Oil

I was reminded recently of how powerful and “Therapeutic Grade” essential oils are. This past month I had some tight muscles that needed some TLC so I made an appointment with my friend who is a massage therapist. She is very talented and a great therapist but for me I feel Raindrop Therapy is so much more effective than a massage for helping overall healing and helping the body, but my body needed some help.

So I brought my Young Living Ortho Ease Massage Oil and she used it on me during the whole massage. Ortho Ease has fractionated Coconut oil, Wintergreen, Grape Seed oil, Juniper, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Marjoram, Thyme Eucalyptus, Vetiver, Wheat Germ, Sweet Almond, and Olive oil. So it really is a wonderful combination of oils to help sore, tight and tired muscles.

After the massage I felt amazing. My muscles relaxed, I felt refreshed and so much better. I happily made an appointment for the next month.

So I scheduled for 4 weeks later. At the week 3 point I felt my body tightening up again and also felt like I was coming down with something. So I made an appointment with my friend Tammy Baxter at Hello Beautiful Salon in Crestview Florida for a Raindrop Technique.

The Raindrop Tehcnique uses the Ortho Ease and 9 other wonderful essential oils along the feet and spine. After my session I felt so relaxed, “detoxed of the crude”, and no more tension and tightness. The results lasted all weekend and also helped me to keep cool under some stressful times.

But at week 4 I had a very intense week physically and emotionally and by the time my appointment came around for my massage I was ready for it.

I got on the table and was looking for that wonderful time of relaxation.  My friend is very talented and does a wonderful massage but I realized in the first 10 minutes she wasn’t using the Ortho Ease I had left her.  And every few minutes she would stop and get more oil I thought.

After the session I got off the table and did not feel as relaxed and refreshed as I did just a month ago. I wished I had asked her to use the Ortho Ease oil. I realized at that moment it made a huge difference because even though her hands can massage the tight muscles, the therapeutic Young Living oils can go directly into the cells creating more of an overall change for my body and muscles.

When she came back in she said, “Today I played a little and used Grapefruit and Peppermint on you”. I looked down to see her Aura Cacia oils on her stand. “AGGHHHH! Don’t use those synthetic oils on me!”, is what I wanted to say but I didn’t. I just smiled and said thank you.

But I realized something at that moment. With Young Living’s Peppermint, just one drop on the skin makes a relaxing and refreshing sensation and I didn’t feel any of that. Grapefruit has a beautiful smell, I didn’t smell any of that, yet I know she stopped and used these oils at least 9-10 times. So my body had at least 9-10 drops of these oils on me but I didn’t feel any of them.

My friend uses a few Young Living oils that she really likes but she believes Young Living oils are too expensive so she sells a line of Aura Cacia oils in her office along with a few Young Living oils.

My personal belief is that Young Living oils are not more expensive. They are more effective. She used 9-10 drops of her other brand without any noticeable effect. These are not Therapeutic Grade Essential oils. They may smell nice but they do not have the therapeutic qualities that Young Living oils have.

Why? I will follow up this blog with a report on the 4 different types of essential oils on the market including the Young Living Standard of Therapeutic Grade. And another blog on why I believe Raindrop Technique is one of the most effective body therapies there is.

Thanks for listening. Let me know what you think below.

Back to School Tips: Soda, Kids’ Health and Behavioral Problems

Back to School Tips: Soda, Kids’ Health and Behavioral Problems

“If you want kids to be less violent, stop giving them this,” said the headline on Twitter. To find out more, I clicked on the link and found an article titled “Soda drinking tied to violent behavior in kids” by the Daily News.

The news said that children consuming four or more servings of soda per day are likely to display bad behavior. Studies show that these kids may have withdrawal and attention problems, destroy other people’s belongings and get into fights and physical attacks.

Here are six more problems related to drinking soda and sugar drinks:

Sugar overload
A 20 oz. Mountain Dew contains 77g. of sugar and a 7 Eleven 64 oz. Double Gulp Coke contains 186g of sugar. Dr. Mercola has an article on What Happens to Your Body Within an Hour of Drinking a Coke.

He said within the first 10 minutes, you get 10 teaspoons of sugar in your system, within 20 minutes your blood sugar spikes and your liver responds and turns the sugar overload into fat. By 40 minutes, your blood pressure rises and your liver dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. After an hour you’ll start to have a sugar crash. (Read more here.)

Read:
The Truth about Sugar Addiction
The nine benefits of drinking water

Additives and artificial color
A question, “Do you use additives in Coca-Cola?” was posted on Coca Cola Britain’s site. The answer was “We do use additives in some of our drinks, including Coca Cola.”

What are the additives found in your soda drink and why are they harmful? The Consumer Report said caramel color is added to many soft drinks to turn them brown and some of these contain carcinogenic chemical called 4-methylimidazole (4-MeI). They tested the 12-ounce samples of Pepsi One and Malta Goya to have 29 micrograms per can or bottle of 4-MeI. They tested on 81 cans and bottles of popular soda brands from five manufacturers.

Read more about 4-MeI on FDA’s website.

Bad for the teeth
PubMed’s report on “Dental erosion and severe tooth decay related to soft drinks: a case report and literature review” said that the acids and sugars in soft drinks have both acidogenic and cariogenic potential. In layman’s term, it will result in potential tooth decay and enamel erosion.

The publication said sugar-free soft drinks have the same erosive potential as sugar-containing soft drinks. So those with artificial sweeteners will pose the same problems.

Dehydration
We may have come to the assumption that any form of liquid will help hydrate our body. Soda and sugar water may give us an immediate quench of thirst but the reality is the sugar and caffeine inside will speed up dehydration.

Dehydration will then lead to tiredness and mood swings.

Increase obesity and diabetes
“If a child drinks just one soda a day, it will lead to 15.6 pounds of weight a year,” said UCSF. These are empty calories loaded with sugar, additives and caffeine. If a child drinks one soda and two glasses of Kool-Aid each day, he or she would have consumed 390 calories a day.

One pound of fat is 3,500 calories. If the child drinks that amount every day, he or she would potentially increase 40 pounds of weight from drinking soda and sugar drink.

Are sugary drinks the major contributor to obesity in America?

To Harvard School of Public Health the answer is YES. The study is poignant and here are some highlights of why sugary drinks including soda are dangerous to our children’s health:

1. The standard size soft drinks before 1950s was 6.5 ounces.
2. By the 1960s 12-ounce cans were introduced.
3. Early 1990s, 20-ounce plastic bottles were normal.
4. 2011 the 1.25-liter (42-ounce) bottle was introduced.
5. In the 1970s, sugary drinks made up about 4% of US daily calorie intake
6. 2001 risen to 9% and by 1999 to 2004 the average was 224 calories (11% of daily calorie intake) per day from sugary drinks.

Kids ages 6 to 11 consume 130 to 209 calories per day by 2008. (Source: Harvard School of Public Health)

It is not surprising when I saw the chart on CDC showing:

Between 1976-1980 and 2007-2008 obesity among children ages 6 to 11 rose from 6.5% to 19.6%.

Bad behavior
The Journal of Pediatrics reported on August 16, 2013 “Soft drinks and behavioral problems in young children.” In the study, the journal finds that aggression, attention problems, and withdrawal behavior are all associated with soft drink consumption in young children.

This study assessed about 3,000 5-year-old children from 20 large U.S. cities, and 43% of children consumed at least one serving of soft drinks per day, 4% consumed four or more.

Poor diet, obesity, bad behavior, dental problems, type 2 diabetes and poor health have been linked to sugar drinks and soda.

Are your kids drinking soda or sugar drinks?

What are the alternatives to soda and sugar drinks for your kids as they are heading back to school?

Surprisingly more soda and sugar drinks are being consumed at home than outside.  I found a Math Project by an elementary school in Waikele Hawaii. The Math Project showed on average the 464 families consumed four cans of soda per family per day. A total of 1,856 per day, 12,992 per week, 55,680 per month and 668,160 per year.

The average cost per can of soda was 31 cents. The 464 families spent $575.36 per day, $4,027.52 per week, $17,260.80 per month and $207,129.60 per year. That’s almost a quarter of a million dollars on soda for an average size elementary school with 464 families.

That’s just one case study. How about your kids’ school?

What would happen if they drank pure water, added a drop or two of pure 100% therapeutic grade
·  Lemon
·  Orange
·  Tangerine
·  Slique
·  Peppermint essential oils to the pure water or

NingXia Red to the water?

Create a Mason Jar Soap Dispenser in Two Easy Steps (Plus a Recipe for Thieves Foaming Hand Soap)

By: Stephanie Warnock

I have a problem. It’s called wishful thinking. I am the kind of person who gets all these crazy ideas and will have a thousand projects going and no end in sight. You can imagine what sort of trouble I ran in to when I discovered Pinterest a few years ago. I have a love-hate relationship with that site. (If you haven’t already, head over to my profile and follow me!)

Within this realm of wishful thinking and never-ending projects, I decided I was going to make my own mason jar soap dispensers. As a canning and preserving addict, I have an entire basement of beautiful glass jars just begging to be used (unless it’s canning season, then I never seem to have enough). The past few months I have also been saving hoarding old soap pumps. It seemed silly to purchase pumps new when I could recycle old ones for free.

It just so happens our last bottle of store-bought soap ran out this past week. I decided it was time to finally make those fantastic soap dispensers I have been dreaming about for months. I have to tell you… easiest… project… ever! I’m not sure why it took me so long to crack down and do it. It literally took me less than five minutes to make and cost me nothing.

So how does one make a mason jar soap dispenser? I’ll tell you.

Supplies
Mason Jar (I used a wide mouth)
Rim and Lid
Soap pump (foaming or regular)
Hammer
Screw Driver
Embellishments (optional)

Directions
1. Using the screwdriver and hammer, create a hole large enough to fit your soap pump. Create the hole small enough to hold the pump snug. (If you make it too big, try again with a new lid, or use hot glue to hold your pump in place.)

2. Add soap, screw on the lid and decorate to your liking. I used a simple piece of twine for mine.

That’s it! You’re done. I told you it was easy.

Now on to the soap…

As a Young Living Essential Oils Independent Distributor, I sell a lot of Thieves foaming hand soap. This soap will cleanse, defend, and condition the skin with essential oils without all the harmful chemicals found in conventional hand soaps. I considered purchasing some for our own personal use but as we have small children who like to empty soap bottles at each hand washing, we simply cannot afford to purchase it quite yet. Since I had all my supplies on hand from my first attempt at making hand soap, I thought, why not try to make my own Thieves soap? I always keep a bottle of Thieves oil on hand. How hard could it be?

Create a Mason Jar Soap Dispenser in Two Easy Steps (Plus a Recipe for Thieves Foaming Hand Soap)

photo via Young Living Essential Oils

Instead of trying to come up with my own formulation, I checked out Pinterest to see if it had been done before. Sure enough, it has! I simply followed the directions at Baby Steps to Essential Oils to make my own Thieves foaming hand soap. Going one step further, I decided to do a cost comparison to see how much I was spending to make my own versus purchasing it through Young Living.

Now if you’re a Young Living Independent Distributor, don’t hate me for sharing a hack that could be making me more money in the long run. First and foremost, I have to spend my husband’s hard earned money well and that means passing up on a product in order to spend less money.

So how much did it cost me to make 16 oz. of Thieves foaming hand soap? $1.14! That’s cheaper than purchasing chemical-laden soap from the store! If you don’t mind spending a little more, you can use Vitamin E oil instead of the vegetable glycerine. I was looking for the cheapest though, so I went with the latter.

I like to avoid using plastics whenever I mix essential oils so my homemade mason jar soap dispenser was a perfect fit for this new soap recipe. It adds just enough creative flair to our otherwise boring bathroom sink and I can have confidence in knowing not only are our hands being cleaned, we’re also avoiding the harmful toxins of conventional soaps.

With less than ten minutes of effort and only $1.14 spent, I call today’s project a complete win! Now it’s your turn, go try it and tell me what you think!

Creative Fundraising With Young Living: Fundraiser for Payton

By | Essential Oils, Total Wellness | No Comments

creative fundraising with young living

I want to give a shout out to my friend and colleague Christi Daugherty. Christi is a wonderful person and friend and I am so proud of her on how she is handling a very stressful time in her life. Her son Payton was just recently diagnosed with a very serious condition in which he will be needing surgery several states away.

The family is blessed to have insurance but not with extra funds for travel and lodging for that long of a stay. She, in her resourcefulness, put up a page to help raise money but at the same time staying in her mission of health. Please visit her page to learn more and donate if you feel led to: http://misschristi.com/fundraiser/
So many times when someone is ill and doesn’t have insurance or the funds for treatments their friends and family resort to fundraisers including Spaghetti Dinners, Lotteries, Silent Auctions, etc.  Those things are fine but they usually will raise money only for a short period of time.  Many cancer patients and those struggling with CHRONIC DISEASE without insurance will usually have some lifelong financial struggles. What if there was a fundraiser that could provide income for a person for years or decades? I believe there is.

Every time I see one of these fundraisers I think what if we could start a Young Living Home Business for this person. Instead of a Spaghetti Dinner it’s a GIANT Young Living Introduction Party or PARTIES… There are still some Silent Auctions, Giveaways etc. but at the event everyone learns about some Young Living products and has 3 opportunities.

1) Purchase something at Retail and the fundraiser recipient will receive the 24% commission.

2) Get a Wholesale Membership account with the Premium Start Living Kit and those who order get over $300 worth of product for $150 and the recipient will earn $50 from that purchase.

3) Get a Membership and Enroll in the Essential Rewards. Those who want to help their friend or family member can choose some health products they personally can use or they want to donate to the recipient every month and the recipient will earn anywhere between 8-25% of the orders.

I mean seriously if you think of the hundreds of people who usually want to support their friend if only a dozen of them fell in love with Young Living, got some results from the products, used them every month like option #3 that could mean more than a couple hundred dollars MONTHLY for the fundraiser recipient. If 40 or more ordered Young Living consistently every month that could mean up to $1000 of extra monthly income.

My point is that Young Living has health products that can help a person struggling with chronic illness and they have an income opportunity to pay for their needed therapies. I strongly believe we need to open up our minds to this process of helping people more than a day, a week or several months but for a lifetime. I believe if structured correcting and presented correctly Young Living could be an answer to financial challenges and health challenges.

Let me know what you think.

The Truth About Sugar Addiction

By | Essential Oils, Natural Remedies, Sugar Addiction, Total Wellness | No Comments

sugar addiction

“Sweet Poison: How sugar, not cocaine, is one of the most additive and dangerous substances” was the headline of a recent article written by Dr. Mark Hyman in the NY Daily News.

He said,
• Americans consume an average of 152 pounds of sugar each year
• Sugar is the new tobacco and secret destroyer
• Sugar is 8 times more additive than cocaine
• Sugar keeps you hungry
• Sugar makes you store belly fat
• Most are hidden in processed foods and sweetened drinks
Read more here.

To prove his point on hidden sugar, I gathered a few items and looked at the sugar content. Here are a few I found:

Pasta sauce 13g of sugar in 1/2cup
Nutella 21g of sugar in 2 tablespoon
Craisins (dried canberries) 29g of sugar in ¼ cup
Kefir 20g of sugar in 1 cup
20 oz. Mountain Dew 77 g of sugar
7 Eleven 64 oz. Double Gulp Coke 186g of sugar
4 Oreos 14 g of sugar
1 regular size Snickers bar 30g of sugar
1 frosted cherry pop tart 34g of sugar
1 bowl of Capn Crunch Cereal 24g of sugar
1 grande Starbucks Mocha Frappucino with whipped cream 47 g of sugar
McDonald’s medium size Chocolate Shake 111g of sugar
½ cup of Haagen-Dazs Raspberry Sorbet 27g of sugar
Raw almond butter 2g of sugar in 2 tablespoon (lowest here)

And the list continues…

Have you read your food labels lately?

Some of these labels require you to have a chemistry degree to understand. One important fact to remember is, for example Nutella is sold as “hazelnut spread with skim milk and cocoa.” When you take a closer look at the ingredients, the first two items listed were sugar and palm oil.

What can you understand by the order of ingredients?

Ingredients are listed in order of quantity, according to Penny Kris-Etherton PhD, a professor of nutrition at Pennsylvania State University’s Department of Nutritional Sciences and an American Heart Association spokeswoman. So the jar of Nutella has more sugar and palm oil and not hazelnut and cocoa.

Reading further…

Sugar comes under several names. Names for added sugars on labels include:
• Brown sugar
• Corn sweetener
• Corn syrup
• Fruit juice concentrates
• High-fructose corn syrup
• Honey
• Invert sugar
• Malt sugar
• Molasses
• Raw sugar
• Sugar
• Sugar molecules ending in “ose” (dextrose, fructose, glucose, lactose, maltose, sucrose)
• Syrup

Can you track your daily sugar intake?
It requires a lot of work if we are consuming processed foods, fast foods, drinks and other store packaged foods.

How about artificial sweeteners?

Want to avoid too much sugar or calories? We are being marketed to drink diet soda/drink and eat sugar-free or products with artificial sweeteners. These zero calories and no sugar products sound like a no-brainer. But are they?

Aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, acesulfame potassium (acesulfame K) and neotame are five approved sweeteners in America. Recently I discovered a graphic posted by stepintomygreenworld.com on “The Truth About Splenda.” Splenda is a type of sucralose that will
• Increase the pH level in our body
• Slow down digestion
• Kill good bacteria in the intestines
• Lead to liver and kidney lesions
• Stimulate fat storage and may contribute to weight gain and cause the desire for more calories
• Increase carbohydrate cravings

Despite the negative effects, worldwide usage of artificial sugar is increasing every year. Food Product Design says it will increase to $3 billion by 2017 from $2 billion in 2012.

Are there ways to curb sugar cravings?

I’ve written an article on Six Natural Remedies to Stop Sugar Cravings.

Here are 2 testimonials from essential oil users:

Donna G from CO on Ocotea and sugar cravings:

Dark chocolate had become a regular snack for me everyday, even though it was just a bite or two. I know sugar can inhibit your immune system so I wanted to change this habit.

I was able to sample ocotea and loved its gentle cinnamon flavor. I started taking just one drop orally per day. Within 1 week, I realized that I had skipped my chocolate several afternoons and it didn’t appeal to me. Now, if I eat sugar, it is because I decide to, not that I am craving it.

I love the taste of this oil!

Fran G from PA on oils for appetite or craving suppressant:

I wanted to help my Mom out with her blood sugar levels as she felt she couldn’t afford to buy the NingXia Red each month, so I put together a recommended formula for control of blood sugar which is equal parts of:

Thieves

Fennel

Dill

Coriander

Well, I really liked the aroma so much I decided to where it like a perfume and dabbed some on my wrists. I began to notice that I wasn’t constantly running to the refrigerator anymore and once when I did get a craving I was heading out to Mr. Z’s (a supermarket) to grab some sweets and had dabbed some on just before I went out. I drove the 3 miles to the store only to get there and wander the aisles. I came back home empty handed. The cravings were gone. I had no desire to get anything unhealthy.

I only have one concern and that is I may not be eating enough altogether as I have no particular need to eat when I use this mix. I never noticed it with fennel alone. At least I can focus on eating to live rather than living to eat. Hope this helps.

5 Healthy Flavors and Cancer Fighting Spices

By | cancer, Essential Oils, Food, Total Wellness | One Comment

They say “variety is the spice of life” but could spicing up your food make you healthier? During the past two decades, there has been substantial buzz about the different diet plans, good fats, ethnic foods and ways to add spices to our meals.

European, Asian, Arab and African traders traveled all over in search of spices like ginger, cardamom, black pepper, turmeric and more. Ancient Egyptians, Greco-Roman navigators, Columbus, Vasco da Gama and many other voyagers went on a quest to India, the islands in the Indian Ocean and China in search of spices.

Why did so many men risk their lives for great flavor? Spices were extremely valuable back then and even without the scientific research that we have today, I believe that the people innately knew that these spices were helpful to them. Now that we have the science, it’s even more important that we get some fresh preferably organic spices in our cooking and diet.

Here are five spices to add to your pantry:

Garlic
We are not referring to garlic powder but the real fresh garlic bulb. Garlic has been known to improve health and has medicinal power. Ancient Greeks munched on it raw for immunity. In fact, in recent years the Mediterranean diet that is filled with garlic and olive oil has been proven as a healthier diet.

Garlic has sulfur compounds called allicin that may improve cholesterol levels, prevent liver damage, helps colon health and improves blood pressure. It has antioxidant and detoxifying properties and contains Vitamin A, C and selenium.

You know that slimy garlic skin that is on the garlic after you peel a clove? Leave that on there, it’s where all the good stuff is. Also my trick for not having fingers that smell like garlic afterward handling it is I put a few drops of Young Living’s Lemon essential oil on my hands and fingers rub them together. It works great.

Cinnamon
Used for thousands of years in Egypt and Asia, cinnamon was a prized possession for traders. It was used for treating cough and sore throats, preserving meat during the spice trade era.

Today cinnamon is widely used for flavoring coffee and drinks, baked goods and cooked foods. It may aid digestion, fight congestion and is useful for diabetes and the anti-tumor properties may help fight cancer.

Young Living has Cinnamon Bark essential oil that has antiseptic properties and supports our body’s natural defenses. If you are going to cook with it or add it to oatmeal etc., just take a toothpick size drop.

Essential oils are very powerful but great. Recently Mary Simmons of Better Living Essentials turned me on to hot apple cider in a crockpot with Young Living’s Cinnamon Bark and Nutmeg essential oils… YUM! Warning… it’s got a little kick to it but it’s great!

Ginger
Ginger brings great flavors to foods and drinks and may help as anti-gas and antacid and relieves stomach distress, nausea, vomiting, and indigestion and bowel problems. You can get it in fresh, powdered or oil form. Like anything else, the therapeutic grade oil, fresh and raw product would retain its original properties.

Studies show that ginger has antimicrobial agent and has antioxidant, which may fight inflammation, fever, heal wounds and sores and stimulates circulation. Young Living Ginger essential oil has all the properties of fresh ginger.

Again if you are going to cook with it, use just a little tooth pic drop… Too much oil can ruin a recipe. Ask my husband about the Thanksgiving Pumpkin pie I cooked years ago when I first started cooking with essential oils… let’s just say it was FLAVORFUL.

Turmeric
Turmeric is widely used in Indian and Mediterranean cooking. According to the American Cancer Society,

“Curcumin, an active ingredient in turmeric, is an antioxidant. Antioxidants are compounds that can protect the body’s cells from damage caused by activated oxygen molecules known as free radicals. Laboratory studies have also shown that curcumin interferes with several important molecular pathways involved in cancer development, growth, and spread.”

Turmeric may protect our liver from toxins; lowers cholesterol levels and improves blood circulation. It has antibiotic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.

Verda Jones of Jones Health Essentials gave me this tip: Take a tsp. of Coconut oil and an 1/8 -1/4 tsp. of Turmeric every day to ward off candida, colds, and flu. You can eat it straight, but we like to add these two to our scrambled eggs in the morning.

Here is a video on how to use turmeric for your cooking:

Cayenne Pepper
The right hot chili pepper in ethnic foods particularly Korean, Chinese and Thai is good for lungs, kidneys, heart and stomach. It may improve digestion, circulation, arthritis and cholesterol.

Cayenne pepper is rich in Vitamin C, B, E, beta carotene, folate, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.

It’s a hard one for some to tolerate but it really is a phenomenal spice. It’s used in the Stanley Burrough’s Master Cleanse to help improve circulation and get the toxins out of the body. Cayenne pepper comes in different degrees of hotness if you purchase it directly in bulk from a health food store. Start with a lower number and work yourself up to the hotter.

Also if you can get to a health food store and buy FRESH BULK organic spices, that is best. Take them home and put them in your empty glass supplement containers and just re-label them.

If you have never used these spices, it may be tough to start using them. Start off with one spice at a time and before you know it, you may be reaching out to your pantry for the spices the next time you cook. And that may spruce up your life and health.

Do you have a recipe to share using any of the above spices? Let us know.

How to Choose An Essential Oil Diffuser for Your Home and Office

By | Essential Oils, Total Wellness | 3 Comments

Editor’s Note:

On October 24th 2013 I flew to Florida to assess the house I would be living in the following month. This house built in 1980 by a master craftsman was beautiful, set back in the woods, but sadly it had been neglected for several years and even had some damage.

When you entered the house there was a stale like odor. When you got there near the wood stove there was a water damage on the ceiling and you could smell a moldy musty smell. Several closets and bathrooms had weird yucky odors. I am very sensitive to bad smells because I have a big nose and I was allergic to molds and dust for so long as a kid.

My in laws were fixing the property up for us and spent the next 3 weeks fixing the wood stove, water damage and other odds and ends around the house. THEY DID A LOT OF WORK. But I knew the smells would be hard to get rid of so I sent 3 Young Living THERAPRO Diffusers along with 3 bottles each of Purification, Thieves, and Lemongrass, Lemon and Peppermint.

They set them up for me to run day and night on the timers. We went through about about 2 bottles each before I got there on November 21st and they made a HUGE difference along with replacing the water damage places and using Thieves Household cleaner on the walls, floors and everywhere. What we did was modify from a recipe given by Dr. Edward Close on a proven method to get rid of mold.

When I started to put our things in the house I found some of the closets still smelling funky so I set a Diffuser of Lemongrass in the closets with the door shut for 24hrs. Guess what? No more funky smells just CLEAN, Lemongrass.

By using Young Living oils that have properties that have been proven detrimental to mold, bacteria, and fungus I wasn’t just covering a smell up but killing the FUNK and saturating with GOOD STUFF.

Note: Many of the oils I used I read in the Essential Oil Desk Reference were good for keeping mice, cockroaches and ants away too.

If you are curious about diffusing oils and wondering what diffuser is best for you, read our article below. It will help explain the difference and get you started being FUNK FREE.

How to Choose An Essential Oil Diffuser for Your Home and Office

To help you choose the right essential oil diffuser for your home, office or when you are out and about, we put four popular diffusers to the test. Two of these are from Young Living Essential Oils and two from independent companies.

What is a diffuser?
A diffuser is a device that spreads essential oil molecules into the air. It is one of the  many ways to use essential oils but in my opinion one of the most powerful ways. There are many types of diffusers on the market today. But we recommend always using a diffuser specifically designed to disperse fine mist into a room with pure essential oils.

There are basically four types of diffusers, namely the vaporizing, ultrasonic, nebulizing (atomizing) and heat. We only recommend using PURE essential oils like Young Living Essential oils many of which are FOOD GRADE. We don’t recommend using a diffuser that heats the essential oil because it can denature the pure oil and possibly be flammable.

What is vaporizing, ultrasonic and nebulizing (atomizing)?
Ultrasonic and vaporizing diffusers require water and a few drops of essential. Nebulizing (atomizing) diffusers do not require water and no water should ever be added.

Why use a diffuser for home and office:

Here are some of the reasons I have used a Diffuser with Young Living essential oils in my home and office:

Home
1. What we smell is directly linked to our emotional center. Diffusing Young Living essential oils uplifts my spirits along with everyone else in my home.
2. Smell activates and stirs production of hormones and neurochemicals that affect behavior and our body’s internal processes.
3. Creates an ambience of relaxation even when the house is a wreck or life is chaotic.
4. Helps keep bugs away, little ones like germs and big ones like flies.
5. Helps us rest more comfortably at night.
6. Relaxes my little ones and is a part of their nighttime routine.
7. Helps everyone’s breathing.

Office
8. Does everything above but in a different environment.
9. Helps relax my autistic and ADD patients so I could work on their spine.
10. Helps relax my anxiety disorder patients.
11. Helps neutralize smoke smells from my patients that smoked before coming into office.
12. Increased sales because clients would just come in to visit the good smelling store.

TheraPro Premium Diffuser

This is a nebulizing/atomizing diffuser. It is compact, easy to use with built in timers.  You can adjust the volume of oil to diffuse depending on the size of your room. It can potentially hit a large space. You can set the timer to 5, 10, 15 minutes for diffusing and also set the in between times, when it is off. There is also a volume control on how much oil you want dispersing .

You can create your own cycle of diffusing the oil for the day. It is very portable and great for a office  living room, kitchen or bathroom. It comes with a 15 ml bottle of Thieves essential oil and an empty 15 ml bottle if you prefer a blend or to mix your oils to create your own concoction of aroma in the room.

PROS OF THE THERAPRO -MY FAVORITE
Powerful
Potent
Diffuse any Young Living oil
The Timer
The Ease of Use – just fit any 15ml Young Living oil no pouring of oil or spilling
The Length of  Time you can set it and just have it run

CONS OF THERAPRO
Some people don’t like the TheraPro diffuser in their bedroom because of the buzzing  sound at night but others like the white noise
The cost is higher than most other diffusers
The amount of oil you will use if you run your diffuser on everyday
I also found if this gets knocked off a shelf it can break the machine : (

Price: $197.37 retail,  $150 wholesale pricing if you have a Young Living membership, Young Living Item 4495
Weight: 1.93 pounds

Home Diffuser -also one of my favorites

This newly designed Home Diffuser combines a humidifier, air purifier, atomizer and aromatherapy diffuser into one product. It safely releases essential oils into the air and creates a spa-like atmosphere.

Home Diffuser is easy to use. It has a water reservoir with a clear lid at the top. You add water up to the line shown inside and drop 3 to 10 drops of your favorite oil to the water, close the lid and turn it on. Do not exceed the line when you fill the water. The diffuser will turn off automatically once the water is all used up.

It is suitable for bedrooms, offices and any room in your home or office. I think it is not suitable for bathrooms because the humidifier ability of this unit may create moisture in the already moist bathroom.

Home Diffuser humidifying, air purifying and atomizing properties are beneficial during the winter season when indoor air is dry. The ultrasonic technology is able to disperse millions of micro-particles from the essential oil into the air.

The unit has a built in light that can function as a night light for kids. The only setback is it lasts less than five hours and for some people who like to sleep in the dark, the light cannot be turned off.  I recommend to start it several hours before going to bed if lights bother you.

Home Diffuser is lightweight and easy to clean. It comes with a sponge for cleaning. Just use rubbing alcohol on the sponge and clean the reservoir.

PROS OF THE HOME DIFFUSER

Acts as a diffuser and humidifier
Acts like a night light
Great for sleeping and bedrooms
Only need a small of amount of oil with each use
Get it included in your initial Young Living Membership Premium Pack ($40 savings)

CONS OF THE HOME DIFFUSER

If you fill over the line or dump out wrong it will spill out
Can be messy if you are using the sink (I recommend having a bottle of water to fill it with at night)
Build up can happen depending on the water you use
These seem to die within 10-36 months with daily use
May not be enough humidity for dry rooms or homes

Price: $98.68 retail, $75 wholesale, Young Living Item 4589
Weight: 1.90 pounds

Ultimate Ultramist 500 ml Essential Oil Diffuser

This unit is sold at Back to Nature Store in Seneca Falls New York. It has a large 500 ml water reservoir that lasts for 10 hours.

Here are the features and how to use the diffuser:

1. No constant refill. It lasts for 10 hours.
2. You can choose between 60, 120, 180 minutes for diffusing or 10 hours.
3. It has 14 colorful LED lights.  You can either choose just one color light or have ongoing changing of 14 colors.
4. You can choose not to have the LED light on.
5. Choose between high or low mist.
6. Easy to use with large reservoir and a measuring cup.
7. Add 8-12 drops of your favorite essential oil to the reservoir and close the lid and select the timer, with or without light and low or high mist.
8. Easy to clean and works almost like Young Living Home Diffuser except it can run for 10 hours. (huge plus).
9. Easy to clean and use without breakable parts.
10. The unit is cheaper than TheraPro and Home Diffuser.

It works as a humidifier and is great for the winter season when indoor air is dry. Even during the summer season with the air conditioning on in an office or home, the humidifier will moisturize and refresh the indoor air we breathe.

The advanced ultrasonic technology of Ultimate Ultramist diffuser produces vibrations at high frequency, turning the water into mist and creating a soothing and therapeutic atmosphere in any room in the home or office environment.

I like the changing color option for added special ambience in the room. The changing colors are very entertaining during the night. If you like a blue environment, just set the color to blue.

When using this diffuser, make sure you place it away from your computers or electronic devices. They may get wet!

Price: $59.99 (Find out more by emailing us at info@starrhealth.com)

Aroma2GO USB Diffuser

This is a diffuser for anyone who works at the computer or someone who likes working at the computer in coffee shops or at public places. It is an innovative diffuser using Piezo Crystal technology.

All you need to do is plug it into any USB port and the diffuser will silently evaporate the oil. If your car has a USB connector or a 12V/USB converter plug, just plug this diffuser in and enjoy aromatherapy while you drive.

Three features we like about Aroma2Go USB diffuser – practicality, is silent and most importantly mobile and lightweight. It comes with one empty refillable glass cartridge, one cleaning dropper and instruction sheet. It works best with thinner oils. Don’t add water to the refillable glass cartridge.

We convert it into a wall unit by adding a wall charger with a USB adaptor. The diffuser is small. Blockage is possible because of essential oil particles. To clean, use the mini pump provided and drop 2 to 3 drops of diffuser cleaner into the unit. The full cleaning instructions are found inside the box.

Price: $24.99 (Find out more by emailing us at info@starrhealth.com)

Why I Choose You

Why I Choose You

by Kayla Howard

Have you ever wondered, “which essential oil brand truly is the best?” Let’s just be honest, if you’ve ever even thought about using essential oils, then you’ve encountered this debate.  It’s actually quite a fad right now to debate, disprove, and otherwise sling mud at all essential oils companies-except your own-which is of course, the only pure and natural kind of oil. (Yes, I just rolled my eyes-oops!)

As a prominent and successful essential oil user, I do get asked this question, and usually I choose to create a very vague and non offensive answer then slip away before anyone notices that I’m gone.  Why do I do this?  Simply because I hate confrontation and do not feel the need to prove what I choose- never because I don’t have an opinion about the best oils.

Personally, I believe it is ridiculous to claim that only one company can possibly create pure essential oils. If that’s your stance, then you need mental help.  Hello, essential oils have been around for thousands and thousands of years.  One small oil company did not figure out the superior way to create essential oils.  Period.

That does not mean that there are not many, many adulterations of essential oils, impure essential oils, and even oils which could be dangerous if misused.  Where there is something beautiful, there is always a fake trying to masquerade as equally as good.   Be careful. Pure, therapeutic grade oils are not made by only one company, but most oils on the market today are not high quality.

The most common question I get about essential oils is, “why do you use Young Living oils over anything else?” The answer to which is very simple; I trust their quality.

This trust is not just placed in the word of someone inside the company who claims that the oils are pure.  This trust is actually based on real life experience.  I’ve been there and seen it.

Kayla sniffing, (and sniffing, and sniffing…come on Kayla, you’re going to get high…) a bag of Sandalwood chips ready for distillation!

Mary Clendenin of The Encouraging Home photographing the lavender fields!

Young Living actually has farms near my home where they grow some of their plants and distil their oils.  I had the privilege of visiting one of those farms and seeing the planting, the harvest, and even the distillation of the oils.  I was flabbergasted by the care and time put into creating essential oils.  Before this visit, I KNEW it was a complicated process, but I had no idea how much passion and time it takes.

A FEW Facts that I never knew (there were many!):

  • It takes 5 years to train someone how to distil essential oils.  That’s just to get them good at it, not amazing at doing it.
  • Gary Young searched for a long time to specifically find land which has never been sprayed with any kind of chemicals, etc.. so he could start his farms.
  • If even the tiniest thing goes wrong when distilling a batch of essential oils, the entire batch is discarded.  Young Living will never use anything even slightly compromised.
  • Plants are harvest different and treated with exact and specific care during harvest in order to get the highest quality oil from them.  It took many years to perfect the art of harvesting Melissa to get the best oil.

Mary and I had such a wonderful time touring the farm-but I must confess, my favorite part was sitting in the leftover floral water Jacuzzi!!!!

Young Living Silvers enjoying the floral waters!

Bottom line is this; I want everyone to use essential oils because I love them so much!  I’m so grateful that I had an opportunity that many people won’t get when I got to tour an essential oil distillery.  It changed the way I view essential oils forever.  Even though you may not get the chance to visit a distillery, I do know that your gut and your research will lead you to be comfortable with the best quality oils you can find!

5 Tips That Help Me Keep The Witch Momma Away

By | Essential Oils, Hormones and Women's Health, Total Wellness, Total Wellness Mom | One Comment

witchmomma

Do you know about the Witch Momma? You know, the mom who is all calm and cool one minute and the next is screaming at the kids. Or maybe the mom who constantly is yelling for children and husband to help her do this or do that. Or the mother who has NO PATIENCE and the family feels like they are walking on eggshells around her. Do you know this mom?

Well I know this WITCH Momma all too well lately. I AM her lately. She seems to come out during stressful times of the day. When we are getting ready to go somewhere and are late, when 3pm rolls around and I have kids who won’t take their nap or at the end of the day when I have a mountain of dishes and 2 more hours of work to do. I can feel my blood pressure rise, my heart race and my mood SWITCH.

How about you, do you know this Momma?

lyingdownwithbook

Well I am sorry if you know her personally, but I have learned some simple tips that will help you keep the Witch Momma away.

1. Balance Hormones: I suspected that the Witch Momma had to do with hormones fluctuating since I saw her a lot while I was pregnant and then after my baby was 5 months old and I started getting my period again. A helpful article on Hormone Balance. I got on Progessence Plus Serum and it really started to make a difference in my mood immediately. It does take some time to get yourself balanced but it is very important and worth it.

2. Exercise 30 plus minutes a day: Walking on my treadmill in the morning for 30 minutes helps me stay positive and happy throughout the day. I am more patient with my children, nicer to my husband, focused when I am working, energized and overall happier. I did find that 15-20 minutes was good if I didn’t have time but 30 minutes at a pace of 2.8-3.5 seems to create the most happy hormones, energy and endurance for me.

3. Chiropractic makes a huge difference in my clarity and mood. Because of my work, babies and life, getting a spinal adjustment every 3 weeks helps me the most. I notice that after an adjustment, my pain is reduced, my breathing and mental clarity improved and happiness increased. It may sound weird but I know from all the years of studying the anatomy and physiology of our body that a Chiropractic adjustment can produce “happy hormones” and positively affect our nervous system.

4. Stress Reduction Sessions: How we deal with stress is SOOOO important. Everyone has it in their life but how we deal with it can be life giving or life taking. Stress reduction can include exercise, a massage, a walk, sitting in nature, a drive or a quiet trip to the bathroom. My favorite stress reducer is something called “Total Relaxation Session” with Jeannie Poyneer.

Women have to realize that taking time for themselves and exercise is so important. It is not only good for your health but it is a stress reliever.  I have suffered from multiple stress related conditions including Bell’s Palsy. I have a stressful job and life and Zumba and exercise helped me feel the best I have felt. – Dawn T

5. Aromatherapy: When we smell a smell, it goes directly to the part of our brain called the limbic center or the emotional center. Research shows smells can have a direct effect on our moods, including calming, mood elevating and alertness.

Peppermint has been found to increase alertness. Lavender has been used for its calming affects. And citrus oils have been used to help elevate moods.

My favorite oil to calm the Witch Momma is Stress Away oil. It is an essential oil blend by Young Living Essential Oils with lime, vanilla and other great essential oils. I just roll it on my wrists, chest and neck and it calms me almost instantly.

I know what you are going to say now… you are going to give me EXCUSES. I don’t have time. I don’t have the money. I can’t. I am not too tired…

I know I had all those excuses myself. But we have to put those excuses away and start making the time, finding the money and pushing ourselves to make time for SELF CARE. Because really that is what it is. When we make time, budget monies for and find help for our babies so we can have SELF CARE, it is AMAZING how much better we feel, how much more we can accomplish and how more healthy we are.

In my house I had to enlist my husband to partner with me so that I could have time in the mornings to work out. I ask my grandma or even pay for a sitter so I can go to the Chiropractor or relaxation session kids free. Most of my essential oils like Stress Away I can get FREE every month with my Young Living membership and rewards program.

I am not saying it’s easy. My husband saw almost immediately that giving me that time in the morning made me happier and better throughout the day. That made him want to help me more and encourage me to get a sitter or help when I needed it for self care. And of course essential oils are diffusing throughout our home all day long making everyone’s moods better.

If you want to keep the WITCH MOMMA away, follow the 5 tips above. If you would like to know more about Progessence Plus Serum or getting Stress Away essential oil or my other favorite essential oils at wholesale prices email info@starrhealth.com. I look forward to helping you get healthy and happier.

Dr. Mary Starr Carter

Tour of the Young Living Farm in Guayaquil Ecuador

Tour of the Young Living Farm in Guayaquil Ecuador

By Claudia Looi

Nothing beats a real life experience…

Our driver Johnny took us to the front of a huge closed gate. The guard came out and instantly recognized him and let us in. He drove through dirt road for over 10 minutes and I saw the vastness and lush tropical trees as far as the eyes could see.

I didn’t grasp the full concept of Seed to Seal until I saw it with my own eyes at the Young Living Farm or Finca Botanica Aromatica in Guayaquil Ecuador. As Jose showed us the Worm House and the processes of preparing the soil for plantation I began to think about the term ‘organic’.

What does it mean to be organically grown without any chemicals or artificial fertilizers? What is organic gardening?

For answers I went to Burpee’s website:

Organic gardening is more than simply avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. It is about observing nature’s processes, and emulating them in your garden as best you can. And the most important way to do that is to understand the makeup of your soil and to give it what it needs. If anything could be called a ‘rule’ in organic gardening, it’s this: feed the soil, not the plant.

The Worm House is extremely important in the process of cultivating plants to produce Therapeutic Grade A essential oils. The processes that had to take place before seeds were planted into the soil blew me away.

What exactly is the Worm House for in Young Living’s Farm in Guayaquil?

To produce organic liquid fertilizer!

The worm population is well-maintained in the worm house in Finca Botanica Aromatica. It could double every 2-3 months and adult worms can produce up to 12 offspring per week. This worm house in the farm produces organic liquid fertilizer.

This part of the tour showed that Young Living’s plants are produced in exceptional quality soil and organically without chemicals.

Looking around the farm
During our visit, oregano was being harvested. Workers hand picked the leaves and were replanting them in the green house. Another group of workers were handpicking the leaves at exactly the right time for distillation. There is no cloning or hybrid seeds found.

Ecuador’s tropical climate and fertile land allows year-round growing season.

There were ylang ylang trees with flowers, peppermint, lemongrass, palo santo trees with oils coming out from the tree trunk.

We were given a few pieces of peppermint leaves and rubbed them in our palms. Instantly we had could smell the soothing peppermint essential oil.

The ylang ylang trees grow very fast in Ecuador. They only take two years to mature and produce fragrant ylang ylang flowers where the oils are extracted.

Close to the Worm House is a brick building. The walls were made entirely by the students from Young Living Academy. These students are taught a new method of making bricks by using local dirt and cement.

Distillery and Laboratory
We saw three stainless steel distillation equipment on site in Guayaquil. Low pressure and low temperature were used in the steam distillation process to ensure the plant compounds remained uncompromised during the extraction process.

There was a sweet fragrance in the room with the aroma of Ylang Ylang. Ylang Ylang essential oil was being distilled during our visit. The water extracted from the plant was being channeled to Nova Vita spa.

Finca Botanica Aromatica Guayaquil has its own internal lab to test and ensure the purity of the essential oils.

The Tree House

DSC_4663Dr. Gary and Mary Young’s son Joseph was with his friends going to the tree house when we visited. The tree house is a great place to find solace and get away from it all. You can reserve a night there for $70 per person per night including all meals and transportation to and from the city of Guayaquil.

DSC_4688

The tree house has two rooms, one bathroom, a kitchen area and sitting area. It has the best view of the farm, pool and a lake.

Nova Vita Health and Spa Center

DSC_4734

Not far from the Distillery and Laboratory is the Nova Vita Health and Spa Center. It was filled with patients during our visit. There is a spa room that gets water from the distillery. Nova Vita provides therapies and treatments using therapeutic grade essential oils.

Their services include blood analysis, raindrop techniques, colon hydrotherapy, chiropractic treatment, body synergy treatment, infrared sauna and floral waters Jacuzzi.

DSC_4723

The center sells selected Young Living products to patients. I saw OmegaGize, Multigreens, Longevity, Juva Cleanse, Super B and Comfortone.

Patients and guests can choose an overnight stay at the center either in the four bedrooms below the treatment center or at the tree house.

Dining Room

Close to the center is the dining room and kitchen by the lake. The dining room has a kitchen where all meals are provided for patients and guests who stay at the center. We spoke with the cook from Peru. He said all meals and drinks on site are prepared without sugar, normal salt or white flour.

Across the lake from the dining room is the first ‘house’ in the 2,000 acre farm. Adolfo pointed it out to us and said it was Mary Young’s “first house” according to Dr. Young.

Our tour to the Young Living Farm in Guayaquil was informal but informative. It opened my eyes to the purity of the oil, the professionalism of the company, the happiness of the workers and the benefits that Ecuador is receiving from a man who had the vision and tenacity to make a dream come true.

As I left the farm with the driver to the city of Guayaquil, I saw the school bus waiting for workers in the farm. Transportation is provided daily to the farm’s workers by Young Living’s Finca Botanica Aromatica to the nearby villages.

Young Living Farm is a working farm that supports the community of Chongon by providing jobs and an opportunity for students to learn about agriculture and the use of local materials for building and making the place a more environmentally friendly and safe.

Each essential oil we promote, purchase or use is made with integrity, purity and quality.
